Somone said any version of MAB would have beaten any version of Naz ?

Remember MAB getting beat up by Jnr Jones ? I think that Naz when he was at his best had the style to hit and hurt Barrera and the fight would have been very different.

The split with Ingle and the obvious decline mentally and in his reflexes of Naz by the time he fought MAB are not excuses they are observations I have made from watching Naz from his first pro fight.

You cannot deny the power Naz possed or the problems the Ingle style caused fighters. The punch you don't see coming is the one that hurts and Hamed landed very hard punches just when they were least expected. I think the attitude Naz had )similar to Eubank until the last part of his career) made a lot of enemies amongst boxing fans and this affects their opinion of how good he was - and how could he could have been.

In no way am I direspecting MAB or Pac - both exceptional fighters who have graced the sport

I think fighting in bursts with a high guard Pac would KO Naz in 3 or 4 rounds.

At the top level Naz was not hard to hit and got hurt by 2nd or 3rd rate punchers so Pac would destroy him.

I can see an arguement for either fighter.

Manny although decent etchnically is a come forward aggressive fighter.
Much of his defensive prowess is simply down to his stance.
Hamed,,sharing the Southpaw stance, could acpitalise on this to land with power.

Nas although using huge power, had terrible balance, so a consistent aggressor like Pac could crack him.

Yeh,Kelly was on the other side and fought not so smart vs. Hamed but he was At Peak a faster combo hitter than Pac.....To accommodate The ego's of Kelly & Hamed alone required an immense ring spread.....

are you talking of Kelly who was knocked out by Espinosa? or was it Kevin Kelly? My memory is clouded right now. If that is the Kelly whom Espinosa KOed then definitely Naz won't win over Pac.

100% correct I couldn't stomach him and I don't think he was past his best when MAB thrashed him he was just outclassed. But one thing you cant take away from him is the heavy hands that he had so yes he would have a punchers chance and nothing else!

This is just a topic that gives me a fucking head ache to be honest.

Truth is, i don't like either of these so i think i'm pretty neut looking at it, and every way i look at it there is a a different outcome and reason for either winning?

but that is what makes boxing one of the greatest sports in the world, good matches are so very hard to call, no matter how would like to big up our ego by saying our pick was right, a lot of the time in even match ups, it comes down to a lot of luck.

I think this match, out of the all the "What if they fought" threads is one of the most itneresting, but hardest to call, luck will play a bigger factor in this than any amount of anaylisying.


The classic thing for all of us to predic in a match that faces to great punchers against eachother is an early KO; but this could very well have seen to very gun shy fighters, both knowing that one clean punch will put them in la-la land.

Neither had a great chin, neither had a BAD one, most of the time they have been in a toe-to-toe it has been their own impressive punch power that has forced the other to back off or go down, rather than their chin that getting them through it.

I personaly would favour Naz in the early rounds, slovenly and recklass in his attacks, he leaves him self very open if he doesn't land big and Naz was all about dodging an attack and landing big with a counter, he had great agility, speed, timing and power, all combined would be a nightmare for a reckless fighter like pac.

While Naz had that, i don't think he was ever tested with someone like pacs hand speed, with his sometimes questionable balance, which was part of his style, if pac landed he could hurt him badly and finish him quick, i just think pac would struggle to land, while Naz wouldn;t so much. it would be very close.

If you want to look at this over a distance, i favour Naz again slightly, there is a good chance pacs sustained attacks could break naz down slowly if he couldn;t connect with the big one, and a fatigued fighter will become sloppy and an easier target to hit, but i think for this to go to the latter rounds, pac would try to box more and get countered a lot, Naz was all about patience, strutting around that ring like the cocky son of a bitch he was, just waiting for the slight opening to land that killing blow, he could controll him self and stay focused, pac i don't think could in a big match, its come forward, all out attack, a more skilled Ricky hattont ype fighter.

You obviously gave this a lot of thought. Good analysis. I, on the other hand, am prone to shooting from the hip on this one. And given my intense dislike of Hamed, I'll admit to being more than a little biased in my own analysis.

watch one of Roy's earlier fights where he ko'd this guy jaca or something with a great left hook, when he missed he didn't look too good. But Roy picked his shots a lot better and he didn't really throw the same kind of off balance punches Hamed did, at least not in that style.

You mean Jorge Vaca ?? that was a great KO he countered with a left hook and sparked him out i didn't see anything wrong with his balance. Of course when anyone misses Majesty they won't look good, but Naz balance was just poor even when he wasn't throwing those lunging shots.

and because he as george foreman put it "throws punches from behind his back" but its a credit to how fast he was that he was able to land them like he did. Roy was more fundamental then Hamed was imo.

Nas has a punchers chance but the night he fought Barrera even that wasnt good enough .

Btw Barrera may struggle vs Soto now cuz he is past his best and Soto looked pretty good last time. So thats a tough comeback fight for Marco .

I think the better matchup would be Hamed Vs. the buffet at the Bellagio, thats a toss up IMO. Pacman I think could take Naz's shots and make him pay for those low hands. If we were in the mid nineties I might lean towards Naz because Manny has really improved since those days, back then he might have run into a wild shot from Naz.
