But I think Calzaghe is the best. He hasnt beaten all the names Lewis has but he hasnt lost and I dont think he has revealed real weaknesses. He has no silly chin for example. He doesnt under prepare. He has the best raw skills. Calzaghe is the best of those fighters.

Lewis was a heavyweight which gives him the greatness, but skills wise the smaller guys are obviously better. And Calzaghe is the best of them.
    Good post.

Although I wouldn't say Lewis had a "silly chin".

And I still rate Lewis the best of that three.
Its my Tuesday night so Im liable to slip with my phraseology. Lewis didnt have a silly chin as a number of his fights have proven. But he could be knocked out by a lower breed of fighter. Rahman was a decidedly unfortunate affair. Hopefully James Toney will knock out that chump next week!

Ultimately its all down to opinions or just how you interpret the question so Ive no issues with the judgements made. I just have my own way of defining how the said judgement is made. And like Calzaghe as the fighter that is better in terms of beating any of those other fighters P4P.

I do think the initial question is seriously flawed and needs to define its terms more effectively.
I'm not sure who would win in a P4P situation. I didn't really look at it like that. Lewis sort of had a dominant presence that I don't think Calzaghe has ever really possessed.

I'd confidently pick Calzaghe to beat Hatton P4P though... and Lewis would easily KO him (Hatt).

Pleasantly surprised to see the results of the poll.

I voted Lewis but Expected Hatton to have a huge lead in the poll . Sanity prevailed though and Joe was second with the Hitman in 3rd place. History will rank them that way anyway .

Lewis definitely, Calzaghe is getting closer, but I felt he lost against Hopkins while Lewis beat the best he faced.

No agreed he did look poor but didn't he take he Klitschko fight on short notice after training for someone else. I'm not 100% on this but I seem to remember something along those lines. If so that could well have been the problem. Also he looked poor against McCall and Rahman but looked good in both them rematches.
I think Lennox was hard to motivate at times and thats as much his own fault than anyone elses. It was the worst Lennox I ever saw but Vitali was there to fight and if not for the cuts he might just have knocked lennox out......who knows?

I still think Lewis retired at the right time and it was a smart choice, he was no spring chicken.
Vitali couldnt beat an 80% Lewis Just imagine if Lewis had been 100% ready? How do you spell

Well personally in general I would agree but I think that Ali was more skillfull a boxer than a lot of "greats" in lower divisions than him including Calzaghe. So smaller doesn't necessarily mean "obviously better". I know where your coming from though.

We'll see when my old man Roy has knocked Joe around for a few rounds just how great he really is!

    Are you serious?

Calzaghe is fighting an old Jones Jr for a reason. He wants to go out beating a big name and to look impressive doing so. I wouldnt be surprised to see Jones stopped down the stretch as his legs give out on him.

I dont think smaller always equates with being better in boxing. I just think with these three boxers the middle sized one is the better one.

    Joe Calzaghe by a mile.

Lennox got real good, but was very beatable at a point in his career. You can't say the same about Joe C. And keep in mind, Calzaghe would smash on anybody from middleweight, supermiddleweight, and light heavyweight. That's 3 divisions....

    Lewis...

    Great opposition

Knocked out the men who knocked him out

Always looked great in the ring, very exciting most the time.

He was the best I think.

Calzaghe would have easily knocked anybody out that knocked him out. The only problem with that statement is ........................ nobody ever beat him, let alone knocked him out

And IF Calzaghe had EVER lost (let alone been knocked out) it wouldn't have ever been to somebody to the likes of Oliver McCall

Yeah your right but he would wait until they are about 43 before he wants to fight them and then still struggle and get put on his arse. I mean could you imagine what would have happened to him against the Hopkins that beat Tito or the Jones that battered Hill and Griffin and Malinga and Ruiz and Toney and Hopkins (in his prime).
