Winky is notorious for pricing himself out of fights. He is not nearly as popular as he preceives himself. He has turned down/priced himself out of numerous fights since losing to Hopkins.

He did at least flat out refuse to fight Kessler this spring, saying 'what has he ever done to deserve that?', a fight HBO was interested in setting up.
Never made it to the negotiation stage, so dunno if a lot of money could have made Winky change his mind. Does IMO show though that at least Winky rates himself higher (or more valuable) that the networks do.
Winky has no business fighting Kessler a very big 168 lber, he should have never strayed above middleweight but since it was Hopkins he did.
When a fighter demands a lot of money to fight, has a tough style for opponents, and isn't a huge draw, that means he's going to have a hard time finding a fight.
Look first off i do not like Winky i dont like his style or way he attacks when he loses. I for one thought Vargas won the fight by a round think ice had it the same way so i consider that a lose. The Taylor fight was close and the champion got the decsion. To be honest with you i dont care if he fights again and if he fights Pavlik i hope he takes a beating.
Spot on mate.
He demand too much. He thought he is the one filling the seats. Make no mistake he is a great fighter it's just that he isn't just as entertaining like the others. In short he's a boring type fighter.
One problem also is that he hates the decision of the judges if it goes against his way. The way he fights(2 by KO since 1999), man it's always 12r sparring session. The judges do the scoring the way they see it. Lets be honest here, we hate the judges decision sometimes cause there's a doubt on the way they score it. But thats the way winky fight. And he complains if he doesn't get the nod of the judges. He sucks and better start knocking opponent to avoid controvertial decision.
peace.
Along with his rejection of the Kessler fight, he turned down a 5 million Dollar offer to fight Taylor in an immediate rematch.
He needs to learn that- How good you are, doesn't always equal how much money you make---ask Ivan Calderon.
Causal Fans do not want to watch a fight that has no possibility of a knockout ending: winky is to good to get caught with a good punch, and he cant punch hard enough to close the show.
that is a formula for modest earnings.
