Mike Tyson won more fights on sheer intimidation than any other fighter I can remember.

Sonny Liston was the most feared

Ali fought him because he wanted to be world champion he may have won but that show at the weigh in was down to sheer fear the doctors almost called off the fight!

I also think at the time he fought helped the legend of this monster he didn't have the mass media to show his softer side (like Tyson crying before fighting in the j Olympics) if there was I think he may have been more popular

Virtually every interview with his opponents they admit to being scared of him some still are.

The exception is when you put the boogie man infront of an old champ that doesn't know fear.

Back in 1964, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis were doing a radio show. Later on at another time, Rocky was interviewing Sonny Liston for his Radio show. Liston being who he was started to get wise with the Rock. He says, "What do you think I'd have done to you, Rocky?"

Rocky tried to be diplomatic and said, "Well, you're a pretty big guy Sony..." But Liston cut him off and said, "I'd have destroyed you."

Rocky says, "You think so? Well then let's get our gear and go into the ring roght now and we'll find out."

The "Boys" that were taking care of Liston rushed Sonny out of the place in a hurry.

Good call on McCallum, no one wanted anything to do with him until he was getting old. He wasn't afraid to go into the ring against a sledge hammmer such as Julian Jackson.

Earnie Shavers had scary punching power, Joe Frazier and Geoge Foreman wanted nothing to do with him.

    Scariest Fighter...
    Scariest Fighter...

Of course you have the obvious...Tyson, Liston, Hagler, Foreman...

Outside of that, Carlos Monzon was a scary fellow outside of the ring.

Theres a picture of Ray Robinson missing Jake La Maotta with a left uppercut, the look of sheer animalistic aggression on his face was terrifying to me as a child.

Gerald McClellan was an intimidating Fighter in and out of the ring.

Roberto Duran was thought of as some sort of devilish abomination cast upon the Lightweight division in his prime.

Ezzard Charles, although a fine boxer was feared because of his mean streak in the ring. The same mean streak that forced Marciano to have a hole ripped through his flesh in order to breathe through the bloody mess Charles left in place of Rocky's nose.

Rubin Carter was always tilting back and forth between deadly focus, and the other extreme of not giving a damn about boxing at all. If you were going to go up against him you better pray that it's one of his off days, God help you if it isn't.

Ali purposely acted crazy and acted hyped and it was misinterpreted as fear. Ali knew the only thing Liston would be afraid of was a crazy man who did not give a s**t about himself.

I don't think tyson won any fight before it began. He won fights after the first few hard punches landed against his opponent. Tyson's opponents probably had big balls going in against tyson, but no balls after the first punches were thrown.

Tyson without a doubt in his prime---what a waste

I read Teddy Atlas's book and you could see that he was not getting the discipline required for a career in the ring from Gus D'Amato,,,,,,,,,he could have been the all time great.

Outside the heavies Duran, Hagler & Monzon all at their best

What about Bonecrusher Smith? He just went in to survive the fight then when he decided to throw a punch at the end nearly knocked Tyson out. What if he had gone in with the intent to beat Tyson?

    Tyson.

    Then Foreman.

    Then Liston.

Mike was electrifying. He wanted to hurt you. He came at you like something unleashed that knew it had to go back soon.

Foreman, after Norton and Frasier, was a terrifying prospect. The man was enormous, bad tempered, and built like an oak.

Liston makes 3rd for sheer consistancy. Perpetual menace.
