Safe money would be on Calzaghe for sure, he has everything other than power over Pavlik.
The only things that would worry me are Joes age and retirement talk.
Pavlik is good and tough, he throws a dangerous right hand for someone like Calzaghe who does get caught with em.
I would see it going much the same way as Kessler, Calzaghe getting the worse of it for 2 or 3 rounds before he does what he does.
Pavlik is untested against any genuine super middles and hasnt fough anyone who can work like Joe.
No one around super middle has fought nayone who can work like Joe, thats why he keep winning but his age might just catch up with him and the facgt he wouldnt have had to make 12 stone for a year!
Id say take the Pavlik fight but if he feels much more comfortable at light heavy, do it there or not at all.
Pavlik would be a tough challenge for Calzaghe but Calzaghe's superior speed and footwork gets him a tough decision victory.
Gotta go with Joe.
Joe best performances come against attacking fighters...If pavlik stays true to himself It'll give Joe the chance to find some rythm with his counter punching. He could just dance him about the ring, and there's no stamina issues with Joe so should not be a problem for him to keep it up.
All he has to do is watch the straght right..I think Pavliks punches are quite telegraphed. With the danger Pavlik faces Joe should have 100% concentration,So he should have his wits about him with that one.
Key to this fight...Get on the back foot and circle away from that power like there's no tomorow.
"It wasn't the night of the jab"
I think Pavlik is a little bit overrated in the American boxing press.
He was only a few punches away from getting KOed by Taylor and he is a bit stiff and predictable but he has amazing power to compensate.
Showed be a great match up,but as long as he does not get old over night i cant see Joe losing this one.
THEN WILL JOE GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVERS?

I think this could be Calzaghes best performance.
Right now Pavlik is seen as a monster, if Calzaghe made him take the fight at light heavy he would have had the luxuryt of fighting at that weight already and being in the division closer to it his whole career, the extra weight could slow down Pavlik.
Although they were decent punchers that put him down, Pavlik doesnt seem to hav e a good a chin as Joe and the punchers Joe has faced have been naturally stronger than the ones Pavlik has faced so I think Joe would handle Pavliks power and Pavlik does get hit, even Locket clocked him a few times.
With the way Pavlik gets hit and the amount hes been hurt already I could see Joe getting a decent stoppage win late on.
Pavlik has shown good stamina but would it be the same carrying an extra 15 pounds?
Would Joe still want to fight like Kessler made him after fighting a couple of old boys?
I dont think the fight would be at super middle, Joe just wants to hold on to the title because its been his for so long, I dont think he would chance finding out he cant make the weight anymore.
I picked Joe, but more out of loyalty than anything else. Its 50-50 for me, and we'll know more aftre their respective next fights. Despite all the 'Hopkins makes anyone look bad' talk Joe has definitely slipped in terms of hand speed AND foot speed (but that could be from the higher weight and he'll have learned his lesosn).
Joe loves guys that come to him he whips them i think Kelly will take a shlacking to be honest.
Pav struggled in the 2nd Taylor fight when Jermain decided to box. Joe boxes at twice that pace and throws alot more. Could be onesided TBH. Joe would start a pretty big favourite in my book .
Work rate is even . Pavlik throws about 80 -110 punches a round. Pavliks punches are accually punches not slaps.
Conditioning goes to Pavlik
Chin ,Pavlik as well
Expirence is all Calzaghe
Power is Pavlik
Heart is most likely a draw.
Height , Pavlik
reach , Pavlik
body attack , Pavlik
speed , Calzaghe but I feel Taylor was faster than Joe has been in the last 4 years.
defense , split
I cant see any other possibility than Joe getting his little ass kicked.
Seriously what a load of crap!
Chin goes to Pavlik? on what basis? theve both been down 3x and Calzaghe has fought bigger tougher men who hit harder than say Zuniga?
Defence Split?
Conditioning Pavlik?
Fanboyism of the highest order.
How about footwork? skill?
Calzaghe owns, the only thing Pavlik has over Calzaghe is power and we will see just how Hard Pavlik hits up at 170lbs, hes not figting 5 8" midgets and in his one fight at SMW he looked far from domanant.
I really hope Pavlik beats Hopkins i pray Joe gets to him quick.
See how Calzaghe fights when he is not fighting overrated euro fighters aqnd old men. Calzaghe has never been close to any one power wise not even Kessler. Hopkins put Calzaghe on his ass with one flush short right. Pavlik took 4 strait hard right from Miranda. One of those punches two fights ago sent a guy threw the ropes. You want to talk about footwork, When has Pavlik ever thrown a punch off balance. You need a good base to deliver power. Calzaghe is weak. His chin is questionable. One shot from Hopkins.
Come one. Pavlik knockout of Calfage by the 9th.
I like Pavlik's style a HELL OF A LOT MORE than I do Calzaghe's, but this would not be an easy fight for Pavlik.
Calzaghe, being the wily old veteran that he is, is not going to make this a crowd-pleasing fight. He's going to avoid exchanges like the plague, and use his footwork and hand speed to throw the occasional light-punching flurry at Pavlik. Pavlik, although a wildly entertaining fighter and one of my favorites, can be a bit plodding at times. And Joe will surely try to take advantage of that.
Having said all that, I still voted Pavlik, 'cause it is a 12-round fight, and there's always a chance the crowd will goad Calzaghe into mixing it up with Pavlik, which of course would be his undoing.
