I don't think Cotto's chin failed him so much as his legs did.

IMO it wasnt Chin, legs, or stamina as much as it was his spirit. He lost that fighting spirit after about the 7th round. You could see the looks on his face he just had ntohing to throw at Toni and that broke him mentally. This will make Miguel Cotto afraid of getting in the ring with any big man. He needs to go back down to 140 somehow
    The key is Self-discipline.

I don't see Cotto ever being the same. He will comeback and probably have some success. I don't Top Rank putting him into a danderous fight anytime soon. But as far as being the same, Fernando Vargas comes to mind.

You know when commentators use the old "it must be demoralising your shots bouncing off" i didnt take note i always thought you would be happy hitting him and at some point you would believe it would slow your opponent down. But against Margarito you know the guys like the terminator he will just keep coming and if you dont have the legs or a huge lead chances are you will lose.

I think this fight will strike fear into Margaritos opponents it will put real pressure on them they will know they have to start fast and sustain it.

Let's put it this way, he won't get any better after this fight. In the end his face looked like all of his previous opponents. He should take the rest of the year off and try and comeback next year, i don't think he should press for a rematch. It could get tough for Cotto from now on.

Cotto put up a hell of a fight, He is a true Warrior.

I think he broke down mentally after Maragrito kept coming.

I think it's important to remember the first rounds, where he looked like truly the best fighter in boxing. He was simply in there with an iron will, but the skills are there for the world to see, he's still far and away the most skilled welterweight in the world imo and maybe the most skilled fighter in the world.

I mean Margarito never really hurt Cotto with any one punch, I don't think this fight will effect Cotto physically in the long run any more than the Mosley fight, but I think mentally its a whole different scenario. I just hope Cotto can get over it. He can still beat almost anyone else in the division, and like I said he might even beat Margarito the next time around if his nose doesn't get broken.
Im completely agree Taeth , that will not affect to Cotto , contrary of this he will get this in a positive sense , next time his routine of training will have to do some others adjustment , thats all...............he had dominating the fight until round 11 , i dont know how others can thinks that Cotto would not want fight Margaro again .............

great post I will always say that Margarito's chin made all the difference in the world. EVen Margo said that Cotto hit him very hard.

He was still trying to win the fight up until the 11th....Cotto wasn't backing down from Tony he was punching as hard as he could but it just had no effect.

Margarito's chin is the best I have ever seen
But you cant deny the fact that Margarito pounded him into submission and made him bend his knee, Margarito didnt concuss Cotto, Miguel melted and wilted.. Tony took his heart and his will... If you looked in Cotto eyes in the corner during the 8th round he was already beat. You dont bounce back right away from that kind of ass lashing...

Margarito did to Cotto what Miguel did to so many others and when your the big dog on the block and another dog tears your ass up like that you get a case of limber tail mentally, not to mention Cotto has outstanding skill but also had that aura of invinceability and now thats gone...

Also ask Jeff Lacy how easy it is to come back from a beating like that... Cotto quit himself because he couldnt take in mentally anymore, it was beautiful, surreal and wrapped with a great big bow of irony

you know Macho it would be nice if you were realistic for once... Cotto was not dominating the fight up to the 11th, he easily won the first 5 of 6 rounds with a few swing rounds after, but from the 8th round on Cotto was fading and getting grinded down.. Just admit it for once that Cotto isint invinceable
