So this was the fight that in all fairness was the nice shiny big name fight that in many peoples eyes was supposed to be cotto - oscar.. the money fight..
but.. Antonio beat cotto.. If oscar makes this fight then tony deserves it..
he deserves a payday and the chance to put oscars name on his record.

but in my opinion he beats oscar pretty nicely and over time when people forget it might be a nice addition to his record.. until then.. it doesnt mean a great deal.. doesnt prove anything for me.

Floyd - Tony on the other hand..

This is boxing, boxers earn a crust, they make a legacy and they dont want to loose ever..
If you ask me.. if floyd takes the fight.. he is more then capable of outboxing antonio margarito and he puts on a masterclass that generates hate but he earns his money another name on his record and remains undefeated..

And at the end of the day.. for me..

If floyd takes a fight with tony.. its a dangerous fight.. dangerous man..
and he comes out with the win.. no matter how he does it or how aesthetically pleasing it is.. then more power to him because it still makes him undefeatable.. disregard entertainment value.. its still skill.

    Thoughts?
If Floyd fought Margarito it would be a carbon copy of what he did against Baldomir. Baldomir doesn't hit as hard, but that's really irrelevant when you can't hit at all. Margarito would get frustrated just the same because he'd be pot-shotted all night and made to look clumsy as Mayweather got away again and again. And after he won people would complain because Floyd didn't stand and trade, which is a completely dumb argument. You adjust your fight plan to your opponent and if putting on a defensive masterpiece is what would get you a W then more power to you.

Both guys did incredibly well, both gained more respect from me and most fans and hell maybe even floyd, but neither will beat him. I hope he stays retired and let's see someone new control this division. That said i think any of the fighters mentioned above beats de la hoya.

Granted, Floyd beats Tony in a marathon over the course of 12 rounds. But was'nt Cotto suppose to do the same? Regardless, just for the sake of argument lets say Tony destroyed Floyd would that make him the best P4P? Would that create an imprint in boxing history?

    Thoughts?

Im not sure to be honest it all depends on how you rate fighters if we look at this way if Antonio Margarito beat Floyd Mayweather Jr then he has the two best wins in current boxing so far beating a top 5 P4P fighter in Miguel Cotto then the P4P number 1 fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr..............

But if you look at P4P rankings going by there whole career then im not sure if Antonio Margarito would deserve P4P number 1 but he certainly would be up there like i said it all depends on how you look at it but i am very happy that Antonio Margarito is getting the recognition he deserves i have been following Antonio Margarito since his fight with Sergio Gabriel Martinez back in 2000.

See thats the thing, I look at yahoo sports' P4P ratings and I expect them to be updated sometime ealry this week and I can almost guarantee that Toni's name wont break the top 10. I know he had this ealry losses but he did just beat a top 5 guy and if he did manage a PBF victory he needs to be recognized as a P4P contender (personally I think they should realize he is one now) regardless of record or way that he gets the win, cuz in the end the point is to have your arm raised.

Well to be honest the only real loss i consider on Antonio Margarito's record is against Paul Williams and even that was close the other loss to Daniel Santos was a gift decision for Daniel Santos and his other losses was when he was a teenager so for me he for certain needs to avenge his only real defeat to Paul Williams in my eyes.

IF he beat Floyd it would be more shocking than Douglas/Tyson; to me anyways. Personally, if Tony beat Floyd, it would be the greatest victory for any fighter I've ever been a fan of; though I do like watching Floyd fight and am a fan.

As for p4p best, I would think he would still need to avenge that Williams loss to stay any doubters.

I thought the same as far as gettting the win and comparisons to any other floyd fights..

I mean personally i know in my heart that antonio is much better conditioned then baldomir and he hits harder.. so i know he can grab a couple rounds but All floyd has to do is get on that bycicle and as far as getting the wins go you do what you have to do and boxing allows you to win that way so its a bonafied win ..lol

As far as tony and p4p goes..

Toney HAS to be top ten pound for pound.. its out of the question to leave him out now..

he beat a guy i had around 3 or 4.. now im not going to take cotto out.. no way.. but i say tony has to go in and that he has to go about cotto.. so maybe cotto goes to about 7 or 8 and tony slips in at about 5 or 6 for me..

If tony beat floyd.. he would have to be top 3.. but the whole i beat number one so i am number one doesnt apply for me.. not in p4p..

you think if hatton beat floyd he would be p4p number one..
p4p is about all weight classes but hatton cant hang with the likes of cotto or margo etc.. or really any welters. so if we had this like put him strait to number one it would just messup the system.
