Default Margarito = How NOT to learn how to box

First off, congrats to Margarito wining the fight against Cotto.
I personally, have NEVER seen Cotto look so good in the first half of the fight. He was fighting the PERFECT fight until of course, he realized he couldn't keep the running pace for 12 full rounds against a BRICK'ed Chin Margarito.

Margarito on the other hand fought HORRIBLEY. I have never seen anyone get tagged so CLEANLY with POWER SHOTS time and time again.
99/100 boxers would have been badly hurt if not KO'd by the CLEAN shots Cotto landed on Margarito TIME and TIME again.

The only thing that kep Margarito in the fight was STRICTLY his chin. He threw less then 40 jabs I think throughout the entire fight!!!

I'm not taking anything away from Margarito because this style of 'Hit me on the face PLEASE' works will for him but is most definetely NOT the way ANYONE should learn how to box.

Miguel was taking Tony to school

Tony is Carlos Manuel Baldomir with power and odd angles. With a chin like that and heavy hands to compliment that, who needs skill?

Can't really say Cotto was taking Tony to school if his punches were pretty much mosquitoe bites that kept Tony walking forward without even bending the kneww a little. I can imagine Cotto started to shit his pants when he saw that the fists that were made of stone against other guys were fists made of pillows against Tony.

You're absolutely right. But Margarito does know what works for him and he utilizes his face-first defensive method.

I have to disagree I think Tony knows his strengths and he works hard to build on them people are going on like he is a mindless robot with a stone jaw

he knows he isn't a naturally slick as cotto so he works on his conditioning until it is insane, he didn't hit cotto with his chin he hit cotto with 237 power punches to Cotto's 179 his percentages my not be as good as Cotto but his has the fitness to afford to miss this is what makes Tony a great fighter not for being slick but for being great at what he does, I have as much respect for that as I do Cottos Boxing ability

This fight was not won by one mans chin but but amazing conditioning, unrelenting pressure and will to win

MArgarit was getting hit Flush in every round. IF it wasn't for that chin he would have been out early.

You go with what works. There is no perfect way in any sport. You learn your own techniques that work for you and then you practice, practice, practice. Margarito found what works and he sticks to it.

It would be foolish to deny that Tony's chin has helped get him where he is, but it would be just as foolish to say that that's the ONLY thing he's got. If he only had a chin and nothing else, he wouldn't have knocked Cotto out. Or Cintron, or any of his other victims for that matter. If he had no skills whatsoever, he would have merely lasted the full 12 rounds but still lost. Clearly, the fact that he wins most of his fights, many by KO, shows that he has some skill. Of course I would agree that his style is not for everyone, but he does the best he can with what he's got, and he's done quite well if you ask me.

No, more like Tony is a slow mule with a chin. Cotto hits cleaner and harder than Tony. Don't forget, prior to the breathing issues, Cotto too was taking Tony's bombs to the chin with and reacted well. Marg by far has the BETTER CHIN.

    Two things we learned.

1)Cotto is not the low blow when in trouble type. I always said this was BS if you watch the Cotto VS Corley and Torres fight.

    2) Cotto's chin is sturdy when he is not draining his body. I saw this already in the Judah fight when Cotto acknowledged a nice Judah punch.. Difference between being on shaky legs and simply recognizing you got hit by a nice shot and wanting to protect yourself.

I will say yet again. Tony was a bum in the fight except for his chin and the fact that Cotto ALLOWED him to come forward the whole night. A nice JAB and laterl movement would have nullified that donkey drunken donkey style of Margarito's. I guarantee you.. Cotto will be punching walls for months when he sees how he allowed the fight to go.
How dare you call any boxer a bum i do not think you belong anywhere near a boxing forum with sh+t like that those 2 were warriers in there and if it were not for them we would not be here talking about the greatest sport around today!!!!!!! Your man got beat get over it but stop the trash talk

Cotto himself has admitted that he hit Judah low, stating that "he will do anything to win a fight" So you are wrong about your boy.

Sure, a slow mule that packs a punch like a mule's kick.
Cotto hits cleaner and harder than Tony
Don't you think it’s the other way around? Tony was not the guy that was saved by his corner and had an unrecognizable bloody face after the stoppage.
Don't forget, prior to the breathing issues, Cotto too was taking Tony's bombs to the chin with and reacted well
It was barely round 2 when Cotto got that uppercut that sent him to sit on the ropes and start breathing from his mouth from round 2 and on. Some punches pay their toll as they accumulate. We've seen Chavez, Mayweather, etc. Do that.
Interesting how people said that Cotto would work on Tony's body and make him quit. It was the other way around and it was seen as early as round 2. As for the breathing issues, guess what caused it.

Cotto recognized Tony's power and solid chin that made him back pedal from one corner to the other and get on a bycicle. I was surprised to see that.
Tony was a bum in the fight
If so then how bad do you think it sounds to know that your fighter got PUNISHED by a bum.
except for his chin and the fact that Cotto ALLOWED him to come forward the whole night
Nope, Tony's chin and punches ALLOWED him to keep coming forward and giving Cotto a beating. Are you saying that Cotto was just being nice and "allowed" Tony to take him like that?
A nice JAB and laterl movement would have nullified that donkey drunken donkey style of Margarito's
    If...would...if...would...if...
Imagine if the fight went to the scorecards. We would hear more crying from die-hard Cotto fans about how he got robbed but the fight was STOPPED, Cotto was SAVED by his corner, Cotto's face showed CLEARLY what happened in that fight, etc. COTTO LOST BY TKO! No doubts, no questions, no nonsense.

It scares me to think of how Margarito will turn out after his career is over. Just because he is not getting concussed does not mean he is not getting some bruising and small short circuits of the brain with his head being bounced all over the place like that.

It will add up on him.

I posted something earlier pertaining to this. I would like to see Tony fight a couple of more times and call it quits. Guys going to be sitting in a rocking chair sipping apple juice through a straw when he's 50. Great chin, no doubt, but brains are complex things and getting jiggled around like pudding isn't a good thing, especially to the extent his does. I'd love to see x-rays of his skull; must be 10 inches thick

That has to be a concern
