When we were young and on a surfing trip around Tasmania we had a vw kombie ,We took a big bag of heads and always had a dozen bottles of pale ale going at the same time as you could do in those days around here.
We were heading up the west coast of Tassy, you have bush 100 ft high on the left as you head north ;that in 99% of , no man has ever trodden.
We just got past an opening for a bbq rest area on the left with a couple of road signs saying something ,just paddoks out to the right. Sun going down behind us. We were sh!t faced and 3 of us staring out the front window like we were just watching telly on the way to heaven music blareing. We saw what we thought was a speed trap just on our half of the road so it came out of the bush to the left and was exactly half way over the main highway so it was black and 10inches thick ,no less and half of it we could see as we went bang bang over it with both wheels was about 15 feet long. we went slow cause it was a big lump in the road we thought and then it raised up higher than the roof of the kombie turned orund and headed back intothe bush and we never saw the tail end of it,but it raised up and turned from the dirt part of the road so it must have been a 30 foot plus black.?

Tassy? Tasmania? Well not to sound unbelieving, but there are no snakes on Tasmania{or the mainland} that big. There may be black-headed pythons there, though I don't think so; plus they are yellow with a black head and I think reach 15 ft. or so. The 2 venomous I know for sure there are the tiger and copperhead snakes. Coppers can get up to about 8 ft. and tigers usually no more than 6. You did say you were sh#tfaced

Then again there are things still undiscovered; and maybe you killed the last of its kind

Well the guy named PHOBOS on there is one of the most respected people in the venomous community. Guy knows alot more than me.

s far as the way that guy is handling that puffer, I don't like it. The wire noose is bad enough, but as heavy as the animal is it puts stress not only on the vertebrae but on its inernal organs. The guy should have pinned and then tailed it and grabbed its head in his hand.

But whatever. Alot of the venomous that get imported, especially from places like Tanzania and Namibia, are brutally caught and come in with scars around their necks from the noosing. Then you have a snake with deep cuts and can die of infections or from not eating. Also, when it is time to shed, those deep cuts cause bad sheds, so then you have to put your hands on them.

I dont think we killed it.Dont know what it was. but it ws thick as a lump in the road that made us jump twice.
It is a place untouched so who knows. We met a ranger who later who who just shrugged and told us that he hears billions of bees commming for about a miniute before he sees even one and they have to lie down on the path while a swarm about 6 feet round x a mile long goes past for a matter of miniutes etc.Like he said he sees things out there just on the fire tracks that they cant explain.

We saw heaps of tassie tiger snakes on bruny island big fukkers and jet black no stripes under them at all but that angeled head and aggressive as rearing up on tracks etc.

We have black snakes near here that are over ten feet and thick .They are at a section of a steel company in Hastings Bhp steel living amoungst old 44 gallon drums that have been untouched for about 30 years, noone goes anywhere near that part anymore. Its a rat infested tip long grass and barrells and sheet iron everywhere.Your idea of heaven.

When you say Tassie do you mean Tazmania or a town on the mainland?

The tigers on Tazmania tend to run darker; sometimes black with only coloration underneat; the ones on the islands off the mainland and Taz are jet black; one snake I would pay dearly to have.
There's no telling what animals have yet to be discovered. It was only 10 years or so ago that a new species of brown snake was "discovere" and scientifically documented. And the Spotted Mulga, which is a very close relative of the King Brown, was just recently discovered as well. You have a treasure trove in Australia; and the most diverse species of snakes anywhere. I would also love to own a red-bellied black snake; awesome coloration and violently defensive.

Yes Tasmania the island state. There is a few islands off of tasmania off of King island actually that has never had man live on them snakes crawl up the beach if you chose to jet ski out and surf over there, a wet suit and boots is very useful. Its the island 1 mile off the north west coast of King island it litterally crawls noone goes off the beach there are so many on the beach and around the rocks you dont have to go any further.

We have tigers here in Southern Victoria that run into grey with yellow and whiteish grey stripes underneath.I've walked into an opening and had three rise and take off in a circle and come oraound us and go out the way we came into the circle,I sh!t myself, they were at a place called cape liptrap and its close to the southern most tip before you head across water to Tassie and their colors are different from the ones in the farms just down the road.l iptrap tigers we come across alot when going surfing. There are large ravines in the cliff that have been cut out by water runnning and so you are at head level with the ground as you go all the way down with trees each side of you that you can see under. (we got rubber up to our necks). These ones that live in harsh conditions around rocks and salt water seem to be more slender and more curious about you.
Some of the Tasmanian tigers off of their own mainland, in the south on Bruny island are nearly all black and get around 6 feet without much trouble out there they live off mutton birds and are fat fuckers at times because of it. Others in the bush next to the rocks on the beach are different again and go back to more slender greyish like on our mainland but not as many bands as ours over here.

Yeah the ones on the island off Taz; like Reevesby Island, have the jet black ones. Their toxic has shown to be more toxic because of the need to kill faster due to living off the mutton birds, so it has to be stronger to incapacitate the birds before they fly off. Or that's what they say. Cool stuff, thanks Andre.

I had a savannah monitor a long time ago, a big one. Loved watching him snatch up crickets by the ton.
