i cant see why people are treating margarito as if he is some sort of indestructable god - daniel santos anyone ??

tito would stop him as would hearns, SRR obviously and maybe a prime DLH
Margarito that fought Cotto on Saturday was as close to indestructable as you can get he took 6 rounds of punishment and kept jogging forward.

One thing he did show was that he was very beatable if you box him cleverly I think most of the fighters mentioned could beat him, but still cant see anyone stopping him

This thread is kind of diminishing Margarito's great, great win the other night. I mean I know being a huge Cotto fan that it SUCKS he got beat and beaten up badly at that. But lets give Margarito respect, he is a tremendous fighter and the absolute best 147 lber in the world today.

    Not including retired fighters.

The first man that comes to mind who would stop Margarito, well two men actually, are "The Hitman" Tommy Hearns and "Sugar" Rey Leonard.

But I'd pretty much pick them to stop almost any welterweight who ever lived.

ye but i dont personally think cotto hits that hard, his an accumulation puncher not a one punch ko artist, and when your boxing of the back foot as he was it was near impossible for him to stop margarito the way he would with most other fighters. wereas the likes of tito, hearns etc could hit stupidlly hard , and i dont care how good his chin is , the human body can only take a certain force to the head before it will shut down to protect itself

Hearns is arguably the hardest hitter to ever grace the welterweight division. His power could have penetrated Margarito's chin. Plus we all saw how Paul Williams height and boxing ability gave Tony trouble, albeit his tying up and constant throwing of punches himself helped too.

Just thought of another powerhouse at welterweight, Henry Armstrong!
Now I bet he coulda hurt Margarito.

Shows how good of fighter Margarito has become though, that we have to sit here and think up literally LEGENDS, to find someone who could stop him.

hearns was a freak of nature thou he was still stopping people at cruiserweight !!

he has an iron chin but his definatley beatable, and to me a loss is a loss by ko or points

I don't know if this was towards me or not but I don't think Margarito is a indestructible god. I just don't think he could be STOPPED by any of the welterweight's except Ray Robinson.

I'm pretty sure Tito would be capable of stopping him. Probably not KO him but hurt him enough to cause a stoppage. NOTE I said capable...

Same for the rest. Margarito's performance last Saturday was indeed something of legends but he is just way too hitable to be unstopable.

    Probably no one though.

Youd probably have to look at Light-Middleweights... some one like Terry Norris or a Young Gerald McLeanan for a slight chance of a stoppage.
Roy Jones was an harder puncher than both at LMW in my opinion. I think Hearns would have KO'd him. The way Marg fights he just takes far too much punishment to the head and the accumulation of Hearns "BIG" shots bouncing off your had constantly would knock anyone out. People used to say Duran was damn near impossible to KO and look what Tommy did there.
