    Default The knockdown.

    I'm in an odd situation.

A friend has been training with me for 3 weeks now.
In that time I've helped him shed a half stone and he's feeling very fit and strong, so I am delighted.
He's also agreed to have a White Collar fight on a card that I am helping to organise, so I've had him spar me and some others.
When sparring me he has no problems, I'm not really a pressure fighter and I step back a lot so he had breathing space. He's not nervous when he's in there with me so that also helps.

But last night in sparring we did spar a pressure fighter.
Matt was doing fairly well apart from constantly ducking for his knees when flurries came his way (keep in mind this was light sparring)
Toward the end of his second round he did the same, ducked low and took what I would deem a sharp tap to the temple.

He was wearing a Top ten headgear and went down, leaning over the bottom rope, identically to Jersey Joe against Marciano.
I thought fatigue had played its part, but he insisted he was dazed.

I really don't know what to think of this.
Should I allow him to fight?
I've been working defense with him for a few weeks and he hasn't really been jarred before this.
Why would he go down so heavily telling me "the ropes were spinning" from such a pulled shot?

I'm guessing it's his first time to a knockout spot? I remember doing some light sparring and getting hit flush with a pretty soft left hook, and felt dazed. But now I know what the feeling is like and you can sort of hide the look on your face till it passes. I'm guessing it's just a bit of an over-reaction, sort of like when you get winded for the first time and start gasping for air and panic takes over. At least it didn't happen in the bout, I think you'll just have to see if he is comfortable with it?

I understand where you're coming from and I agree with most of thanks Salty.

But what I worry about is him going down from a slight tap.
    There was nothing on it.

I had considered that when he was getting continuosly attacked he just gave up, lost heart and crumbled, but it does seem he was dazed - by a nothing punch!

Just bumping this up because I'd like to gain a few opinions before I decide on a course of action.

Sometimes a shot lands just right, and the lights go dim

Knockdowns happen I realise that although I've never expierienced it, but this was a tiny punch Monkey, really a tap.

Did i read this right, your friend has been training for 3 weeks and you are gonna allow him to fight. To answer your question there is no way you should allow him to fight after 3 weeks of training. I cant beleive you are even considering putting him in. From what you have expained about your friend he doesnt sound like he is ready to have a fight if he is taking a knee during light sparring, that shits embarrasing.
