If he's only been training for 3 weeks and it was the first shot he actually felt it probably came just as a shock to him.
Check his reaction this week, is he REALLY up for the fight or not, or maybe the slight over reaction may be a small cry to be pulled out rather than admit he doesn't feel up to it yet.
He's been in and out of a boxing gym for over a year.
I take no responsibilty when I'm not with him, but when he's with me I only ever spar light and ask the others the same.

Thats precisely what I am going to do.

I could but thats not what I really do.
In order for our sparring to pay any dividends for myself I'm just throwing my jab perfectly and defending as best I can.

He's been boxing a while, he is decent with the fundamentals.

He has taken some shots in the past and there was no real reaction.

Good job he got knocked down.

He went to the doctor and got himself checked.
Turns out he's got a problem with his kidneys.

No freaking kidding, alot of commisions dont have thorough physicals, can you imagine that guy taking numerous shots to the kidneys?

To answer your question there is no way you should allow him to fight after 3 weeks of training. I cant beleive you are even considering putting him in. From what you have expained about your friend he doesnt sound like he is ready to have a fight if he is taking a knee during light sparring, that shits embarrasing.
    No you didn't read right.

Donny - Guess it shows your instincts were correct about something not being quite right.

Hey - I guess it does!

He won't ever be able to box competitively, but fair play to him, he's still coming to the gym and blasting through the workouts

Well like I said, he can't fight, but he's safe to train.

He can "operate" safely without physical contact.
But when he gets tired and gets hit he'll just switch off.
