This was his comment about Marciano after Larry lost to Michael Spinks thus failing to break Rocky's unbeaten record:
"If you want to get technical about it, Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jockstrap."

I'm not a huge Holmes fan but my favorite quote of his was after a ref gave the instructions and asked if anyone had any questions Larry spoke up and said "Yeah, can you count to ten?"
BAD AS HELL!
as for the Rocky quote, I'm sure a number of guys feel like Larry BUT it doesn't change the fact that Rocky is still unbeaten
Larry is a love him or hate him kinda guy..
As far as his boxing career goes im really not very well educated on him..
But from what i hear about the guy he sounds like a genius![]()
Immortal Technique
EXTREMELY talented but much like Rocky he wasn't blessed with the competition Ali was blessed with.
He had a weak division but he dominated and although he lacked power he had the ability to make up for it and still stop fighters
Put me down in the "hate" column. His boxing skills notwithstanding, I never saw such a whining, complaining, arrogant, and disrespectful boxer as Larry in those times. His quote about Marciano was totally classless, and his constant whining about racism in boxing (he was about as racist as they come) made me dislike him intensely. Good businessman or not, generous with his hometown or not, Larry's one guy I've NEVER liked. I was glad when Tyson KTFO'ed him.
You can't compare heavyweights of different eras because of the weight differences. The average heavyweight weighed less in previous eras. Marciano can't even be considered a heavyweight nowadays.
Well Larry would have lost to Lennox Lewis, Riddick, Bowe, and Wladimir Klitschko and all those guys are considered inferior to Holmes so I fail to see your reasoning
Trainer whilst you believe whatever you want you must accept that Renaldo Snipes and Tim Witherspoon took it to Holmes and damn near beat him and of course Holmes did show he was resiliant vs Shavers but Earnie was a TEENY TINY heavyweight and if he could sit Holmes down like he did then Larry would be in DEEP shit vs the likes of Bowe, Lewis, and Wlad no matter what you might think about them.
Larry could jab like a mofo but Bowe worked on the inside and moved VERY well, Lewis had crazy power and was very athletic, Wlad is more athletic than people want to admit he's robotic because he sits on his punches but he's very accurate and doesn't risk much.
Larry won fights by controlling distance with the jab and controlling the pace vs the bigger stronger fighters of more recent times he would have trouble.
Witherspoon was a better fighter than Sanders, Brewster and Golota.
Snipes put Holmes down but hey he got up and won - something that Wlad didn't do against a similar fighter in Brewster.
I'm sure if Brewster and Sanders can spark out Wlad then Larry could. Wlad is pretty one dimensional and his skills are not in the same league as Larry Holmes.
Bowe just was too lazy to beat Larry and tended to fight much smaller, powerless fighters and Larry would have given Bowe a beating.
Lennox and Larry are closely matched but for me Lennox had that right hand to keep Larry respectful. Lennox on points.
Lennox and Larry are Top 10 Heavy's while Bowe is Top 20 but Wlad ain't Great and still has alot to prove even to break into the Top 20 - the guys robotic and chinless.
I love Larry Holmes and he has been through alot and it really paid off for him. Does anyone remember him running on that car and dropping kicking Trevor Berbick in the chest with both feet like he was Shawn Michaels All you heard was,"Larry Holmes Kicked me!"
