That still doesnt change the fact that whey and meat proteins are the same thing. You can still get kidney problems from too much whey.
Too much protein makes your kidneys work much harder than they should, regardless of what kind of protein.
Besides the problems he had were caused more by the lack of carbs for the body to burn as fuel than it was by fat. As i said earlier, when the body burns protein as its primary source of fuel is when the problems arise.

Excess protein can cause kidney damage because the acid group of the amino acid is converted into ammonia and then to urea which then passes through the kidneys. Too much urea passing through kidneys can cause kidney problems.
By the way, it's the amino group of the amino acid that is converted to glucose (if necessary) so actually burning excess protein for energy is not the reason for potential kidney damage...but yeah i can see what your saying - too much protein (regardless of whether or not it's whey) can cause kidney damage
