I only wish ICB was active right now so he can knock your dick in the dirt with this Holmes getting beat by Klit argument... ICB knows everything about Larry including what the inside of his sneaker smells like

Agreed,I like the Klitschko's but they are WAY to plodding to deal with that jab.
Prime Holmes had both footwork, and that murderous jab,he'd either jab him away,or when Klitsch lunged step and hooked all night

mike weaver should have beaten him in 79.

he wasn't quite experienced enough, but he had holmes in trouble.

I'm sure if Brewster and Sanders can spark out Wlad then Larry could. Wlad is pretty one dimensional and his skills are not in the same league as Larry Holmes.
Bowe just was too lazy to beat Larry and tended to fight much smaller, powerless fighters and Larry would have given Bowe a beating.

Lennox and Larry are closely matched but for me Lennox had that right hand to keep Larry respectful. Lennox on points.

Lennox and Larry are Top 10 Heavy's while Bowe is Top 20 but Wlad ain't Great and still has alot to prove even to break into the Top 20 - the guys robotic and chinless.
    Larry Holmes wasn't a KO puncher (69 wins & 44 KO's)....Wlad IS a KO puncher (51 wins & 45 KO's), Lewis...let's not even go there, and Bowe (42 wins 33 KO's INCLUDING a KO win over Evander Holyfield).

You may very well remember Riddick being lazy but in his short prime he was as dangerous as they come, anytime you take a prime Evander Holyfield and just whip his ass 2 out of 3 times then you're doing something special. Also Larry never fought guys as strong as Wlad, Lewis, and Bowe...those guys are beasts

All-Time great status does not factor in to deciding who wins a 1 on 1 fight. Buster Douglas was a bad mofo when he beat Tyson and on that night he may very well have beat any person put infront of him.
simply put Lewis, Bowe, or W. Klitschko have never had to deal with someone as technically gifted as a PRIME Larry Holmes, hell Lewis was whooped by a one dimensional Oliver McCall who barely beat an old Holmes in his only title defense, sooo yea

So what if some guys gave Larry trouble? Who hasn't been given trouble at one point or another? Doug Jones gave Ali trouble in his prime, and who the fuck is Doug Jones? Same with Sir Henry Cooper, and how good was he really? Roland LaStarza gave Rocky Marciano hell in the first fight which was what easily could have been the Rock's only loss, and how many top 10 HW lists do you see Roland ending up on?

    You got me intrigued, Trainer.

Only Mitchell I can think of is the guy that handed Bernard Hopkins his 1st defeat.
Can't think of a Mitchell related to Heavyweights as mentioned above. Can you enlighten me?

Put me down in the "hate" column. His boxing skills notwithstanding, I never saw such a whining, complaining, arrogant, and disrespectful boxer as Larry in those times. His quote about Marciano was totally classless, and his constant whining about racism in boxing (he was about as racist as they come) made me dislike him intensely. Good businessman or not, generous with his hometown or not, Larry's one guy I've NEVER liked. I was glad when Tyson KTFO'ed him.

Thats sort of my point,Mitchell beat(on an MD to be fair) one of the greatest middleweights in boxing history
And then didnt fight for 7 years, and ended up 3-1
Just because Holmes had trouble with an also ran,it doesnt define his career,it just means he got caught off his guard that night.
Hell Ali had trouble with Wepner, though to be honest, alot of that is Ali's own fault for screwing around in the early rounds when he could have just dropped him

You mean having the President on the US putting in a hot line to your white opponent, and not putting one in to your locker isnt racist?

Maybe the President didn't like Holmes either.

You can't compare heavyweights of different eras because of the weight differences. The average heavyweight weighed less in previous eras. Marciano can't even be considered a heavyweight nowadays.

Larry Holmes may well be the greatest heavyweight of all time, but we will never know because he, like most other of the great heavyweights in history, dominated a relatively weak era, that is to say that the heavyweight division seldom produces great fighters within the same period. As for Klitchko, put him in just about any era through history except for the current one and he would not be number 1 imo

My favorite Holmes quote is on Don King...

“That man is the devil, that’s why he combs his hair that way, to cover the horns.”
