Why would being a southpaw be an advantage?

I've read Oscar had difficulties dealing with southpaws... It's also a general assessment that southpaws are at an advantage over right-handed boxers since southpaws are used in fighting with right-handers while right-handers does not have the luxury of meeting southpaws on regular basis...

How many Southpaws has Oscar Dela Hoya actually fought except Pernell Whitaker ? because i think its hard to gauge that Oscar Dela Hoya struggles with Southpaws based on struggling against one of the best defensive fighters of all time and it was more to do with Pernell Whitaker's awkwardness rather than his Southpaw stance.

As much as I don't want to see this fight, another part of me wants to see it.
I also don't know why I want PAC MAN to win but I do. My heart is with Pac Man but if I had to put any money down on this fight, I would lay it down on Oscar. I hope my heart is right

Mayweather: For Pacquiao with the hopes of fighting Pacquiao, and Pac being less difficult at the bargaining tables.

Vargas: For Pacquiao. Vargas would root for the Grand Wizard of the Klan if he fought De La Hoya.

Chavez Sr: For De La Hoya, with the hopes that his son can fight DLH.

Barrera: Voted for him rooting for DLH, since DLH is Mexican/American, but not sure. Was his split with GBP on good terms?

Margarito: Rooting for DLH with the slim hope that he can fight DLH in 2009.

It was in good terms but both parties are not really happy with their partnership... Barrera feeling he didn't get the big fights and substantial support from GBP and GBP feeling Barrera didn't deliver the numbers to the company/promotions...

    Well they're talking about this...

Arum noted, "Oscar De La Hoya always has difficulty fighting speed and always has difficulty fighting a southpaw. Manny Pacquiao has both of those qualities in abundance. So Freddie Roach really believes and knows what he was talking about when he said that he likes his guy’s chances in the fight."

It's Arum who pointed it out so maybe it happened early in Oscar's career... BTW Hector Camacho a southpaw...

Most recent fights of Oscar were against right-handed boxers so Pacquiao's southpaw stance might give Oscar a different and difficult look...

    SaddoBoxer,
I have noticed you use that laughing smiley in every thread that talks about ODLH vs Pac...does it mean you are being sarcastic with what you wrote?

BOXING superstar Oscar Dela Hoya has agreed to pay a penalty of $3 million for every pound or a fraction thereof in excess of the welterweight limit of his bout versus Manny Pacquiao in December...

Oooooh ok, just in case that if things don't go as you expected and PAC lost you don't come up later saying that you were just being sarcastic or something.

If Pac loses he won't be saying anything because you won't see him anymore.
