Calzaghe: If i win and Pavlik win i may be tempted.

Joe Calzaghe is slowing down and his punches are becoming less and less effective, although it would be amazing to see Calzaghe vs Pavlik/Dawson or Tarver it would also be a silly and greedy move. I just can't see Calzaghe staying undefeated against Dawson or Pavlik, Chad Dawson is like the modern day version of Herol Graham and Kelly Pavlik is like the modern day version of Carlos Monzon.

He didn't look good against Hopkins but who does? When Calzaghe beats Pavlik I'm sure that we'll hear that Pavlik is actually a one-dimensional limited fighter.

I think Kelly Pavlik is much more dangerous than Jeff Lacy was. I had seen a few of Jeff Lacy's fights before the Joe Calzaghe fight, and he looked like an average fighter against Omar Sheika, Syd Vanderpool, and he had never faced an elite fighter like Kelly Pavlik has. If Joe Calzaghe beat Kelly Pavlik i would give him all the credit in the world.

I agree that Pavlik is better than Lacy and he's a better boxer than he's given credit for but I still think Joe will beat him. Then we'll hear how he wasn't really that good after all and Calzaghe still hasn't fought anybody really good etc. etc.

But then there would be a NEW young guy Calzaghe MUST beat. That's what happens with older fighters, Ice, there's always a new kid on the block - currently Pavlik.. before him Kessler.. before him Lacy.. we only learned (accept for the majority) the TRUTH about these guys after Calzaghe smashed them

So true Fenster, people before the Kessler fight was made and Calzaghe was making noises about fighting the likes of Hopkins RJJ and Tarver people were slating him saying he is ducking Kessler he needs to fight him before anyone else, theres always going to be the new guy like you say. If he wins and beats Pavlik whats the odds this time next year it will be Calzaghe should be fighting Dawson blah blah blah.

And you know you said theres always another new kid on the block ? well i think your answer right there is Chad Dawson. If he beats Antonio Tarver which i think he will, you can bet your life savings that fans will be demanding a Chad Dawson vs Joe Calzaghe showdown.

Screw being undefeated. It's means nothing if you fought inferior opponents most of your career. Even if you get 1 or 2 losses by facing the best, it still means more than that big fat goose egg. Fight 3 or 4 more then retire.

Can't see Calzaghe fighting Pavlik but if he does brilliant i think he will have his hands full with Jones if he fights anything like he did vs Hopkins he gets beat. Im not a Calzaghe fan in fact im a hater really but if he beats Jones perhaps he should retire because just say he does beat Pavlik their will always be somebody to beat samething with Mayweather if he had fought and beat Cotto then people would say fight Magarito,Williams and so on a fighter should get out when he feels its time.

It seems to me as if Joe is trying to talk himself out of a Pavlik fight.


It seems as if part of him says retire undefeated but the devil/champion in him wants to prove to all the doubters that he is the No1 in the world and one of the greatest fighters of his time.

Thats when the fight turned around now if Robin Reid can have success coming forward against Calzaghe, then im sure Pavlik can against an older version of Calzaghe.

I wouldn't say Calzaghe is a better fighter, he is a smarter fighter but alot of his attributes have declined since then. His combo's aren't as good, his power has completely gone, and his speed has declined plus his age. Infact i think Calzaghe is a fighter on the downslide IMO, and one last thing Sakio Bika also gave Calzaghe trouble and he come forward.

If they both win their next fights then they'll definitely fight. It's always about the money and when Joe says something like this or Pavlik says something about shooting Joe in the leg to stop him running away from fighting him it's all just hype to build up any future fight between them.
