Default heres an interesting thought reguarding roy jones

reguarding roy jones, what if instead of fighting john ruiz he had been fighting the heavyweight champion in his prime mike tyson, so about a 1987 tyson. could he have stayed away for 12?

I'm the biggest Roy Jones fan in the world as you know but there is no chance. I'm NOT a fan of Tyson on the other hand but I just think he would be too powerful for Jones. Jones for me would not have the power to get Tyson out and eventually Tyson would catch him with a shot that would get him out of there.

I think he has a chance. If it's prime for prime. But there is no way Jones would have considered that weight in his prime. Although he would have been a lot quicker in his prime than he was when he fought Ruiz and Jones had good power for his weight. Tyson revelled in the big slow guys because he was so fast in his prime and so good with his defense. He always struggled though against skilled boxers who use the jab well and Jones could do anything he wanted in his prime and jabbing would have been a weapon for him. It sure would be a good fight though.

i think roy would go a few rounds, probably until he got caught flush when he wore down a bit maybe in 5 or 6 rounds,

the thing that makes roy such a legend imo is that if we spoke about calzaghe or even someone heavier like tarver who imo are great and very good fighters, calzaghe being the great one we would laugh at the thought of them taking on a prime tyson.

however even though the large majoritry of people think he would get sparked there are some who think it would be a competitive fight even if roy was to lose. i just cant see anyone else who has a natrul weight of below cruiser being even given the slightest chance of making it through 3 rounds.

Yes that is why i would think he has a chance. Movement, stamina and punch speed would all be in his favour. Just like he did against Ruiz Jones Jr would be fast - stupid fast and the ring generalship would be in his favour as would punch output. Staying out of the way of punches is much easier for the smaller more skilled guy.

Styles make fights. And unfortunately for Roy in that case, Tyson's style would have eaten him alive. Tyson was much too fast for a fighter like Roy to have success. A prime Tyson's speed was almost on par with Roy's and it would have been the most minor of slips when Tyson tapped him, stunned him enough to make him hold still and then just bombed away. And defense or no, Roy would not have survived. As accurate as Roy's punches were Tyson's were just as accurate and much more ill-intended. Roy was not built to take shots like that.

Tyson was a monster in his prime and was very fast for a heavyweight he would of caught up with Jones very fast and i see a brutal KO win for Tyson.

I think the 87 Tyson would destroy Roy although P4P it would be a good fight.

P4P Roy Jones beats Mike Tyson but at Heavyweight he is simply too small, even though i don't like Tyson you can't really argue against him in this fight, Jones may be able to avoid Tyson for a few rounds with his excellent speed. But Tyson would catch up to him sooner or later and KO Jones.

    No chance.

Tyson had fast hands and feet in his prime and he would catch Jones sooner or latter.

2 or 3 rounds at most and Jones would be flying into the cheap seats.

Plus he has slow feet and hands.

    And a slow workrate.

Also he is not a good boxer overall.

    Total crap really!

I lost alot of respect for Jones when he booked that fight,if he had gone for one of the other champs, even if he had lost,Id have respected his effort
