I'm rooting for Lacy in this one, the odds are stacked against him now and he's been written off by everybody it seems.
Still me and JT Rock will cheer him on.
There's no American fighter with a bigger heart than Jeff Lacy so I hope he can dig deep and cause an upset here.
If Lacy uses him jab and lets his hands go like he did pre Calzaghe i think it will be a good fight. With Lacys heart and Taylors lack of workrate it will be a good fight.
I still think Taylor will dec Lacy but Jeffs power will keep Jermaine respectful and not too gung ho.
You are correct, dont forget AMAT he is a big Lacy fan too.. No bigger heart and courage than Jeff Lacy he will be my favorite fighter till he decides to hang them up.. Hopefully he can put his punches together like he did the beginning of the Mendoza fight.. Not making excuses but mendoza hit Lacy on the back of the head at least 20x in that fight as well as Lacy got ripped off of a Knockdown when he throttled mendoza and only the ropes held him up but the ref didnt call it.. Epi is a big time puncher with a 90%+ KO rating in his wins and Jeff dosent exactly have a Mayweather type defense, but he gutted one out.. I am rooting for him hopefully he stays competitive and can present a problem with his power and grit
Yeah it disappointed me how quickly everyone was to jump off the Lacy bandwagon following his loss to Calzaghe. Boxing isn't just about getting the W you can lose, in fact lose every minute of every round as Lacy did against Joe, but still prove yourself a man and do yourself proud.
I wish Jeff was a heavyweight as he'd finally be a fighter the Americans could get behind, he's always in shape, fights on against any level of adversity and never complains or makes excuses either during or after a fight.
My favourite American fighter too, let's hope he can land something big on Taylor.
Taylor will be a big favourite to outbox him but if it goes into the trenches and they both have to give it their all I have no doubt Lacy would prevail and force Taylor to quit or at least to stop punching and surrender over the 12 rounds.
If Lacy can dial it back he has the potential to hurt Taylor worse than Pavlik did. Lacy has all the chin in the world and if a KO comes Taylor is going to have a workout to get it, but in the meanwhile Lacy has the potential to hurt him with either hand at any moment. I think Taylor will box for the first few rounds while playing keepaway, banking rounds until he relaxes, believe Lacy is a non-threat and that's when he'll get caught with something HUGE that will change the tone of the fight. If it goes to the cards Taylor wins and if it ends early there's an 80% chance Lacy will be the one standing on the turnbuckle.
Oops
Mendoza was one good punch from putting Lacy away about 3 times, in fact Lacy had to tackle Mendoza to avoid being KOed, which he admitted in the post fight interview.
For me the determining factor in this fight comes down to 1 thing Taylor's jab, if Taylor uses that jab all night he wins a wide UD, if not he gets outworked and possibly KOed. Although Taylor may have enough extra power to take out Lacy down the stretch, I think it's unlikely he will try and put him away.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
