Man some how think this thread going to turn into a Pavlik Calzaghe thing that while end up being alot more pages then it should lol.
Your a fucking idiot, when has Hopkins ever gotten gift decisions? Your stupid. Also he kicked Mercado's ass in their second fight. Stop overrating Pavlik, he's good, but Calzaghe was better, Winky is better, even Taylor is a more difficult type of opponent for Hopkins. Pavlik is favored, but not by much. Pavlik who doens't move well and doesn't have very much speed or a strong chin is the perfect opponent for Hopkins.
Hopkins 5-7 years ago tears Pavlik a new one, now its Pavlik gets a slight nod for UD win, and thats only because Judges are retards.
I see nothing in Kelly Pavlik that makes me believe he's going to knock Bernard Hopkins.
BHop is up there with James Toney as one of those fighters you can't even conceive of getting knocked out.
Pavlik is a decent fighter, but he's no all time great and it would take one hell of a fighter to knock out Hopkins, even a 43 year old one.
Pavlik will probably win on points but I fancy Hopkins more in this fight than I did with Calzaghe.
I'll put money and say if anyone gets knocked out in this fight (I don't either will though) it will be Kelly Pavlik.
Casamayor has looked God awful in recent fights and against Katsidis was put clean out of the ring. He got completely schooled by Santa Cruz and looked shit even in winning the belt against Coralles three years back.
You can't even compare him to Hopkins, he was just done, like Morales.
Hopkins has never come close to being knocked out and more importantly boxes so carefully he doesn't get caught in a situation where its likely to happen.
My guess is Pavlik won't land a hard damaging shot on him all night but will win through workrate alone.
I expect Pavlik to be caught flush at least 3 or 4 times in this fight though and will likely have a couple shaky moments.
But Hopkins ain't getting knocked out by Pavlik, not even close. Hopkins is just one of those fighters who doesn't get knocked out. If he's hurt he'll spoil and hold. If Pavlik gets hurt on the other hand.........
Lol, Don't get mad guys![]()

Looking forward to seeing how Pavlik handles this fight - I don't think Hopkins gets KO'd as he has enough ringcraft to see him over the finishing line. Even so, Pavlik should win on workrate as Hopkins will gas out in the second half of the fight and not throw enough punches.
Personally, I don't think Pavlik will knock Bhop out. I think bhop showed that even as a shot fighter, he is crafty and intelligent.
But...as the post posits...what if Pavlik does knock out Bhop? Will it completely legitimize him in the eyes of fans? He will be doing something Calzaghe, Winkie, Taylor, ODLH, Trinidad, the list goes on, could not do. Granted, Bhop is 43 now, but knocking out Bhop is a great feat. Even more special since Calzaghe was only able to eek out a win against Bhop. Whatever you want to say, in terms of skill-level, Bhop can't be too different than he was against Calzaghe.
Either way, if Pavlik beats Bhop and Abraham beats Marquez, not only do we have a fight for all the chips, but potentially we have an all-time great middleweight matchup. I'll fly to Vegas for that one. Bet your money on it.
Bernard Hopkins did look somewhat close to getting stopped against Mercado on the first knockdown, he was seriously shaken up. Even James Toney looked somewhat close to getting stopped against Reggie Johnson, when he got put down heavily on a overhand left.
But i understand your point and i do agree i just thought, id throw them two examples in there though.
