Default Is Sam Peter a disappointment?

Sam peter dazzled us with KO power but the second he started to have problems...EG Knocking Wlad down several times but failing to get the KO...Being put down several times by McCline etc....People seemed to turn on him....

Peter never was a guy we thought would be a great boxer but his power made us hope he was going to be the savior of a boring division.....

Have we just expected too much from Peter or has he really not lived up too his potential?

I think it's not exactly his fault, to his credit his skill level has not declined. But when he started stepping up to the title level most of the boxing headlines read something like "We bored with the heavyweights"
I think most people around the world were looking for someone that brought something besides a jab and a hug inside the ring. Before his fight with Wlad, there were a few off the wall statements comparing his power to the likes of Tyson and Tua. I really think it was a case of people expecting too much from him.

This may sound silly but his mouth and his attitude did it for me. Like killersheep said comparing himself to Tyson or Tua. I believe it was the Jeremy Williams fight when Peter knocked him out cold and he is pointing at the fallen fighter shouting WHO NEXT !!!. In this scary situation any other decent human being would be concerned for the hurt fighter but Peter sees this as a marketing statement. In my mind he is a real piece of shit. I hope Vitali can get rid of this joker for good.

Any way you slice it he was overhyped imo. Question is who actually thought he was the saviour, and didn't just hope he hit hard enough to beat everyone out there? I don't really see how anyone could have ever felt he had the skillset or natural ability to save dick all. Don't get me wrong, he can make for some good fights which I expect his with Vitali to be.... But watching him try to box is like watching a retard have sex.

I don't think he's a disappointment, I always thought he was a middle of the road type of fighter who has had flashes of talent

He does come off as an arrogant loud mouth.I thought he showed nice adjustments in the Toney rematch as far as Boxing ability. Also,He gets over the top with the locker room religious mantra.

Even though I don't think he's a top fighter, he does fight more agressively and in a fan friendly way. I do appreciate his position in the heavyweight picture, but I have no expectations of him sitting on top of heavyweight hill.

I don't think Peter has been a disappointment.

It's been disappointing that it took him so long to get Maskaev to fight him, and it took so long for the a fight against Vitali to come together, but that's not Peter's fault. He got screwed over and over again by the sanctioning bodies.

Peter always showed great power against the C, D level fighters. Against better opposition it's not as great

True.... but to be fair, isn't this true of almost all punchers? Very few guys score crushing knockouts against good opposition. For example, Peter couldn't knockout Toney, but that's because no one can KO Toney!

not really a dissapointment as a fighter but he is fat and it would look silly for him to be the HW champ of the world

Ill make my decision on Saturday after the fight

I hope Peter wins. The last thing we want is two boring brothers who arent willing to take chances, holding the belts . Its bad enough now. It will be even worse when Vitalis back as champ , delaying fights , pulling out and messing everyone around etc . Peter is a vunerable champ but he has power so I think there are better fights down the road if he stays as champ . Id give him a chance of beating Wvlad in the return .

I don't think so, I mean there's a tendency to always overrate a big puncher. I hate this expression, its becoming criminally overused but, oh well, he is what he is. A big strong slow guy who throws clubbing punches and gets hit too much.

look at Miranda, now everybody knows that he was a bit overhyped but the next time a big strong dude comes around who's knocking people out left and right we'll forget about what happened to guys like Miranda and hype him up as the next big thing.
