Lewis was the fighter that was strongest at the end.He was landing the better harder shots.

The fight getting stopped like it did created the biggest boxing myth in recent times that Klitschko would have won the fight.

However he acted like a right knob head after the fight.

    Agreed!!!

Forgive my tone, but I'm so fk'en tired of hearing 'IF' this and 'IF' that...

    KLITSCHKO LOST!!! GET OVER IT!!!

All this 'WHAT IF' the cut didn't happen...IT DOESN'T MATTER! It DID happen and Lewis was the cause of the cut! It was an absolute justified stoppage. Klitschko face was beginning to look like paper mache. In further rounds, Lewis would have stopped him beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I don't understand why people are making excuses for Klitschko...You very rarely hear Lewis fans state 'Lewis was in absolute horrendous shape for this fight' (which he was btw)..yet he was STILL able to give Klitschko the worse beating of his life!

So again...ENOUGH of this what if BULLSHIT! Lewis WON...END OF STORY!

Unless Vitali had plans to strangle Lewis to death with his optical nerve, I think the decision to stop it at the time was correct.

Great post . Lewis won . Lewis would have won . . look at it any way you want but the fact is Lewis on his worst day was still too good for prime Vitali and thats a fact

Vitali was all over the place after the uppercut in the 6th.

Lewis would have won as fat and out of prime he was.

well I'll bite...IF the cut didn't happen IMHO Vitali was big enough, strong enough and had a good enough chin to force Lennox into a slugfest. Make him fight at a pace and a style that he wasnt' comfortable with and ultimately due to a better chin and equal power knock him out.

That goes both ways, Lennox is the only opponent Vit has faced that could land regularly and with power on him. It was Vit who would have been going into unknown territory in the later rounds against an opponent almost as tall who could land at will. LL's only losses came by single punch KO's, all the fights which were close and went into the later rounds he had the grit to pull it out of the bag.

All I'll say on this matter is Klitschko showed how good a punch resistence he had that night. I mean if that was Wlad that took a punch to cause such a gash (and yes it was a punch) he would have still been looking at the ceiling now.

All that matters now though is that Lennox won the fight!

I think the biggest myth that came out of that fight was that Lewis was about to KO Vitali in the next round or two. The truth is, it is impossible to know what would have happened between two big guys throwing big punches.

Gun to my head, I would pick Vitali. Lewis' uppercuts were hard but infrequent and Vitali was taking them (though I know he was feeling them.) I remember thinking that Lewis' second wind was blowing away and that he was going to have a tough second half.

That is exactly what I thought DAWGSWIN! Lewis had his second wind, he pushed really hard for the KO and nothing came of it....sure the doctor stopped the fight but minus the cut Lennox was going to do A LOT of holding and pushing off from the 7th round on and the fight was there to be had.

rjjtszyu, Lennox threw a punch that caused the cut but it wasn't a punch that landed that caused the cut it was Vitali leaning back and the thumb of the glove hitting Vitali awkwardly.

Lennox may have lost the fights on points, they would have slowed down, but Lennox would have won the rematch.

I don't know....Lennox always seemed to be troubled by fighters with good jabs and Vitali has got a good one AND he hooks off of it. I will say, I think either way the rematch would have been more of a chess match than the first fight which may have played more into Lennox's favor IMO.

God it was a great fight though....I think it was the most exciting fight Lennox was in. It was certainly his most even matchup since fighting Holyfield.

Sorry klitscho fans, your man is a great fighter but not on lenox' level im afraid.

Vitali was completely rocked and had to clinch to lewis for about 30 whoel seconds after that huge uppercut landed on his chin.

All respect to vitali for how he took and it still stood but he must have been fukd by it completely, he was totally gone for the rest of the round.

Having said that, this was by far a prime lewis, he was overweight and getting on in age as well so his stamina may not have held up.

    My opinion:

'If vitali didnt get cut' (such a stupid thing to say anyway because it was a legitmate cut from one of lenox' punches that caused it, then lenox would have won by ko.

I believe the ko was coming in the next round, i think lenox wouldve gone all out and continued landing more of the thumping haymakers onto vitalis chin. I think he wouldve rocked vitali and then would have come in with a classic 3-4 punch lenox combo to take him down.

Vitali = great boxer, but sorry vitali fans, he aint a lenox lewis!

Btw, i know people are all doing the 'what ifs'...so heres another 'what if'?

What if vitali had fought a PRIME LENOX LEWIS?

I'll answer that...forget cuts, lenox wouldve bashed the sh1t out of him.

I think it shows just how class lenox was, he bashed vitali in the 6th round to the point where the guy was clinching constantly, he was rocked, if this had been prime lenox lewis we wouldve seen the 6th round beating he gave vitali in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th rounds, no chance vitali would win.

History showed that a past his best, out of shape lenox lewis beat a prime vitali klitscho, albeit via a tko from a horrendous cut (caused by the punch, nothing 'accidental') = a legitimate win. Shame it was ended by a cut but there was no chance klitscho couldve continued as it wouldve opened up even worse after a few more shots.

Had history placed a prime lenox infront of klitscho, theres no contest at all, klitscho on the floor by round 8!
