It's not so much fanboyism, it's the England/Europe/US thing, and the other various national battles, Pacman etc. It would be great if people could view the fighters not through a nationalistic prism. The fanboy stuff I can handle.

I have to say that I think pretty much everyone on here will probably have a favourite fighter and they will fight their corner all day long. Mine is Roy Jones. I read every single article in newspapers and Boxing mags and so on and I probably know more about his career than any other boxer.
But at the same time I like to think I'm fair about what I am saying. Just the other week someone posted a thread about who would have won between Roy and Tyson and I quite simply answered honestly that I thought Tyson would be far too much with his superior size and to be honest I can't stand Tyson, though I do respect he had one of the greatest punches in the history of the heavyweight division.
I have no problem with this so called "fanboyism" in fact I like to see people standing their mans corner whether I agree with what they are saying or not. For example I know Lyle is a huge fan of Wlad Klitschko and sometimes I feel as though he overrates him but whenever I or anybody else comes up with an argument against what he is saying he always comes back with his theories behind what he is thinking, that creates good topics and is what makes these threads on here entertaining for me.
I honestly think you are being a bit harsh towards people who want to see their man do well.
If Calzaghe beats Roy Jones to me his resume will be better than Lennox.
Lennoxes defining fights were against Tyson and Holyfield. Nobody can convince me that Mike Tyson and Evander Hoylfield were any less shot than Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones when Calzaghe got to them
Tyson had already been knocked out twice, disqualified once to avoid getting knocked out, had been in jail and was a shell of his former self.
Holyfield had been knocked out by Riddick Bowe, almost KO'd by Bert Cooper and was 38 years old and considered well past his best.
I don't see how those wins are any better than beating Bernard Hopkins who was the current Ring champ at 175 and has just pitched a shutout against the Ring Middleweight champ in his fight after losing to Joe.
Jones Jr has been knocked out twice just like Tyson but he's on a win streak and is considered p4p one of the best fighters of all time.
If Joe beats him, Jones and Hopkins are his Tyson and Holyfield imo.
Guys like Kessler, Lacy and Eubank approximate well to Klitschko, Ruddock, Bruno etc so I really don't see what Lewis did to achieve more.
When you factor in also that Lewis got ktfo twice whereas Calzaghe has never lost a fight then in my mind it's really hard not to put Calzaghe above Lewis IF he beats Roy Jones.
Fanatic fan boys seem to come out mainly around the big fights Like cockroaches, once the lights turn on and the show is over, they scurry away.It is a boxing forum after all, bound to be some fisticuffs. It's when it goes all button pushing and "hater this, hater that"....like a school yard, that you say why bother. As Caleoh 12 mentioned just look at the aftermath of Pac/Marquez.....that was just insane and pure crap.I actually had a sick feeling watching the front board turn into a giant litter box for many who insisted on defecating all over it.It was all you could do to not become what you disliked in others and start throwing bombs.Pitiful !!
It's when people insist on tearing down fighters, really ANY fighters (except of course:Tarver/Tye fields/Zahir raheem/Butterlard/Christ Martin/John Ruiz/.....ok, I kid.But really when we berate and shred fighters with so much ease and borderline enjoyment in an attempt to enhance a favorite,a real disservice is done to both.Excuses are a dime a dozen and prevalent when things do not go a fighters way.You have to be consistent.Just try this one day,and call me naive....."Hey,I was wrong"!!Nice change of pace sometimes although that certainly would shut down the discussions huh?
Also, the worst are the f!!!!!g Spammers coming out....they should be hunted down and run over with a bus.
I ain't no Joe Calzaghe hater i just question his record when the topic is brought up, but i have gave him credit many times. Secondly whether a fighter is from the UK or isn't doesn't really matter to me, i either like a fighter or i don't and i don't care where a fighter comes from.
For example i wanted Floyd Mayweather Jr to thrash Ricky Hatton, because i prefer Floyd Mayweather's slick style more than Ricky Hatton's messy hugging brawling style. And i wanted Evander Holyfield to beat Lennox Lewis, because Evander Holyfield got me into boxing, and i liked his exciting style much more Lennox Lewis's jab-fest safety first boring style.

Same thing here really. I like a fighter, and thats it. I couldnt care less where they are from. If there is something about their style or even character that I find interesting then that is what gets me into a fighter. Calzaghe is one of my fighters, but James Toney is the other fighter I follow most avidly. Haye is British but I cannot stand the guy.
I hate when posters try to shove a fighter down your throat and wan't to make you like them or agree about their greatness.
Silly shit heads.
