I have the answer to the initial thread question.....
He can say it was all a big mistake, he isn't British, he is actually American. Within a week he would be p4p number 1![]()
I give Calzaghe respect for all his accomplishments. I also believe he is top 3 pound for pound.
He should beat Roy but I won't be cheering for him.
I'm just not a fan.
suppose its more imporant RJJ respects JC than all the JC Haters, RJJ said he will be fighting the fastest puncher he ever met and Hopkins also respects JC. thats much more important!
I respect calzage but he gains no respect for this fight what does it prove?
Last year calzage said roy jones was past it now he wants to fight him.
I think he just wants jones name on his record to make a case for the hall of fame.
He sould fight chad dawson who is undeafeted and not over the hill then what can anyone say
Its boxing though people will always dought you no matter who you beat look at any graet fighter in his own era he was doughted constanly it was only after he leaves people realize the void he left behind and begin to appreciate him.
Not comparing calzage to but examples:
Ali
tyson
duran
hagler
just a few but you get the idea
Joe is supposed to win this fight... It won't do anything for his legacy when he wins except that years down the road when people see Jones on Joes record they'll be like, "wow, he must have been good." But many won't know it was due to his drastic decline...

Well, all due respect(you do hold the gay-off belt) I saw Calzaghe winning by a point... Close but none the less still a win... And even a close fight with Bernard is still a plus for Calzaghe seeing the highly touted(and one of my fav fighters) Pavlik was nearly of not totally(arguable) white washed by him... So yes, I disagree![]()

Whatever that gay-off thing was, it was gay in and of itself. Whoever feels that it is important to hold a popularity contest or unpopularity contest based on a forum is gay. I think you can give Calzaghe credit for how he did against Hopkins for sure, but saying he beat Hopkins clearly is wrong because he didn't, even having him win by 1 round doesn't overcome the fact that Hopkins is 43 all other acclompishments included. That fight helped Calzaghe's credentials for sure, but it also didn't because IMO it shows that Hopkins prime for prime was the better man, and this fight will be meaningless as well because of Roy even looks half decent IMO will show he would be the better man prime for prime, and if Roy wins then Calzaghe looks like a fool, which also doesn't give him due credit because he is a good fighter, but in terms of all time greatness he is more on Mosley or Dela HOya's level.
Hey man... You won the gay-off be proud.
All this prime for prime talk... It's a moot point... They were both different fighters in the beginning of their primes... TOTALLY different style for sure with Calzaghe cracking more and not slapping pitty pat flurries to astound the judges and Hopkins being a more agressive fighter who was a good finisher(Course Hop looked like his old self this fight).
Stating Hopkins is 43 is also moot at this point. We all know that a boxer is only as old as the amount of punishment he has sustained over the course of his or her career. Hopkins is not an "old" fighter and shouldn't be looked at that way as that was dispelled and blatantly apparent in this fight...
I think we'll have to agree to disagree.
