What will it be Adam. 2 weeks ? 1 month ?
What has where a fighter comes from have anything to do with boxing ? first off i have never really like Joe Calzaghe's fighting style, where as i always liked RJJ flashy style.
Plus RJJ was one of my hero's growing up, i think its silly just to root for a fighter. Because there from the same country as you just for the sake of it.
Agreed 100%
It's a weird concept - supporting somebody just because they were born on the same bit of land as you. Can't believe that takes presidence over the fighter in general. For example, i don't like Junior Witter much, but he lives near me.
I sincerely hope Roy Jones rolls back the years and puts on a show. My head says Calzaghe will be too busy for him. I think Roy is at that stage where he is happy just to be headlining, where Calzaghe is desperately trying to stay undefeated. Of course, Jones could be much more determined than we all think. I know he isn't the fighter he once was, but even a 50% Roy Jones is better than most of other light-heavys out there.
disliked calzaghe when he came on the scene, i was guted when he beat eubank, & not happy when he beat reid either, but think i was being prejudiced cos he was welsh (sad i know) but the guy grew on me & after meeting him he was pure class a true gentleman, & thats why i am a big fan
I'm with Big H on this one, you should support your home fighters. I've never understood how people like Dark Lord Al and Tyson Bruno can hate on Calzaghe so much. Or Bilbo on Hatton etc..
I'm no longer a fan of Hatton's style and I hate the way Calzaghe taps open handed. That said I'll still be screamig at the TV for them to win in the coming weeks.
I support Wolverhampton Wanderers because that's where I'm from. I support the England football team because that's where I'm from. I supported Great Britain in the Olympics becuase that's where I'm from.
Sure I apprceciate how great Brazil play the beautiful game but that doesn't mean I'd support them if they were playing England.![]()

So home where you live or home where you were born?
I think follow who ever you like or else we are all tarred with a one sided brush just so others can maintain a flag waving mentality!
What about Saddo should he of been backing German fighters cause he moved over there ? Now he is back in old England so he has to change back now to English fighters?
Born on a plane? You have to barrak for which countrys flag the plane was flying under!
Or can they barrak for anyone?
I don't want to be forced into barraking for Mundine (on your set of rules) if he ever fights over there in England, Im switching to rule no #3 and going for my country of births fighter on the night not where my passport said I am from.Actually Im froma vagina so that wil explain why im being such a c... on this matter![]()
Thats ridiculous you sound just like another member who used to be here Yotisdan. Boxing is not about country vs country is about two guys in the ring putting it all on the line.
I either like a fighter or i don't i personally don't like Ricky Hatton, or Joe Calzaghe's style so why should i root for them ? you just said you don't like Hatton or Calzaghe's style yet you root for them ?
I really don't understand that at all, you should root for the fighter who you appreciate the most for there skills, heart, or exciting style. Which ever one it is it shouldn't be just because they come from the same country.
As for your last comment i couldn't careless about football, i don't mind playing it but i never follow it and i don't understand the hype it gets.
[quote=ICB;628241]We'll just have to agree to disagree.
I knew somebody would pick apart the football analogy as they don't like the sport - but the priniciple is the same imo.
Answer me this, did you route for The US or China in the Olympics because they had the better athletes? Did you want Massa to beat Hamilton becuase you prefer his driving style? Did you want Federer to beat Murray becuase he's the better player? Or the US to win the Ryder Cup because they had the better players...
Maybe you don't follow any other sport at all so couldn't care less but I think you can at least appreciate what I'm saying.
Kids who supported Man Utd when I was growing up were ridiculed for being 'glory fans'. They opted to support the best team in the country over their home town team just because they were the best team.
Maybe it's blinded loyalty or something on my part, but I just thought in sport you back your own countryman. 99% of everyone I know does...
