And there is another tough guy who lurks by the name of Adrian “The Shark” Diaconu.

If Dawson is Calzaghe‘s next opponent (assuming Joe fights on), will his style be made to order for the Pride of Wales? Will he be able to cope with Joe’s constant pressure (remember how Chad struggled in the Johnson fight), remarkable stamina (which allows for incredible punch volume which allows for taking an opponent out of his game), and his superior ring IQ?

Chad did not listen to his corner to "be careful" when he came out for the 12th round agaiint Tarver. While he showed a fighter's mentality, he also gave Tarver a chance to jolt him in the last minute, albeit with punches that lacke damaging pop. That told ME something and I'm sure Joe saw it as well.

Time will tell if Bad Chad is the new king in town--one who can clear out a light-heavyweight division which some say is now full of “aging legends.” I'm not yet sold that he can....not yet.
    Ted,
What hype are you talking about?

You gotta be kidding... BCD and the word hype don't belong together.
    You've wanna talk hype.
    Michael Grant
    Francisco Bojado
    Paul Gonzalez
    Mike Quarry

These guys were all hyped up and never delievered.

Shit! off the top of my head I can't name you another HARDCORE Dawson fan besides myself. By hardcore I mean has seen more then just his fights from the Adamek fight and on....
I've seen 25 out of 28 BCD fights, been following his career since 2004/5.
I'll be the 1st to tell you he is FAAAAR from hype.
The only reason why you are suddenly hearing a lot about him now is because of the quality of opposition he is fighting and more important because he can be Joes farewell fight. So if your hearing a lot about him is because some people think he's got a shot at beating Joe.

I've made a short assesment on the way I think Joe vs. BCD would go...
I'd back BCD to win but I think ultimately Joe beats him because I think BCD does all the things Joe needs him to do to win.

    - Sit on the ropes
    - Have lapses
    - Inactive rounds

With those 3 things Joes got the fight in the books.
BCD can beat Joe but IMO he would have to correct those 3 things in order to do so. Chances are he probably wont do it from 1 fight to another.

Ted, when I 1st starting talking about BCD here I was told he had no power, he was to methotical, he had a glass chin and at that time believe it or not he was fighting at Middleweight. I was told Sturm would beat him, Abrahm was starting to make noise also and I was told AA would KO him, JT would school him all night.

Well here we are yrs. later and the kids moved up in weight he's only 26 and already has some top caliber names on his resume.
Adamek whom at the time he beat was considered #1 or #2 by most ratings. Glen Johnson and Tarver.
You gotta love the fact that the kids already established himself as a premier boxer.

I think you titled this thread wrong, because honestly if you look around there is no BCD hype. Shit there's not even a full wagon here of fans and I mean fans not people who started liking him after he captured a title.

The kids def. got the skills and I do agree with what you say on your post but 100% disagree with you that there is a BCD hype.

Well, maybe hype is the wrong word. Maybe raves is a better one. Here is just an example of what I meant:

I'm ready to give Joe [Calzaghe] the opportunity to draw the curtain on his great career in front of his family and friends and 70,000 fans," and "It's the best fight in the light heavyweight division between two undefeated champions. --Chad Dawson

Pound for pound, [Chad Dawson] is the best fighter in the world –Floyd Mayweather Jr.

…there is nothing offensively in a boxing ring that Chad Dawson can’t do. --Al Bernstein

But I see your points , Mike.

Ted, you've been around longer then to take the time to quote anything PBF says... So let's scratch that one out.

BCD has every right to think he can beat Joe and why not.
I can't think of anyone else whos got a better shot at LHW at Joe then BCD.

After thinking for a minute here, I agree with Al. BCDs got some arsenal in his offensive game. The way he puts punches together with hooks, uppercuts, his jab, body shots, lead left, up stairs down stairs.
    Offensively he's got it all.

Other than maybe the PBF remark, i think BCD deserves all the praise and 'hype' he gets. I think anyone who beats, Tarver, Johnson, Harding and Adamek is a bit more than hype anyway.
Whether he could beat Joe is another question, but he has every right to claim he should be the next challenger to Calzaghe's crown.
Chad should maybe go after Hopkins, im sure Bhop would fight him and Dawson has the skills and size to go with the Nard.
If he won that fight then Joe C may feel he has to fight Dawson to prove he is better.

He's fine but needs to stop relaxing off nice flurries.Seems to coast when doing well late on.On the non top 10 p4p ranks for me,borderline but early.Bright future if he can maximize opportunity's and remain consistent, nice combo puncher.I think he gives Joe a solid iffy fight right now.

I will agree with Mick here and although i may not have seen. 25 of his fights i've seen 10 of them and i think im qualifed to make a good judgement on him. First off how can anyone say he isn't a world beater ? have you seen his last few opponents ? they've all been world class opposition, he fights the best and beats the best but they still have that question mark ?

Secondly someone said his punches are to straight ? are you kidding me ? some of the greatest fighters of all time made a habit of mostly throwing straight punches. Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Thomas Hearns, come to mind straight away, and secondly he doesn't just throw straight punches. He throws Uppercuts/Hooks/ especially when he gets going with the combination's.

And i think he always mixes it well, he isn't one dimensional offensive fighter like Kelly Pavlik. Antonio Tarver was like a deer in the headlights when those combinations were flying. Becuase there so fast especially for a fighter at 175, and they come from so many different directions to the body and head. That he couldn't do anything.

I don't see how you couldn't be sold to be honest, i think the only question mark is how good his chin is. Because at times its looked suspect, but he did take some good flush shots off Antonio Tarver who is a good puncher, and all of Chad Dawson's knockdowns were flash knockdowns.

He's beaten good opposition and he has basically answered alot of question's which need answering. And he is a very smart fighter and he knows how to pace himself, and even though he does take a few rounds off at times. I still think he would do good against Joe Calzaghe, because you can take away workrate with good movement. Which Chad Dawson has, and he could match Joe Calzaghe's combinations and more. Lets just give him credit he deserves it i don't know why some people are degrading him, he seems like a nice guy outside the ring, he never ducks anyone. And he is a hell of a skillful fighter and an exciting one inside the ring.
