I hear you man Johnson is no world beater, but he is tough as nails and is a late bloomer of sorts, the guy seems to have endless stamina and a serious strong will... Joe may very well cruise in this one too but Joe dosent possess the power to deter Johnson.. Glen is definetly scrappy and relentless with his pressure and pretty underrated.. Again Joe may well pitch a shutout against him.. Until Joe officially retires and is the undefeated top dawg, its to be expected fans, writers and experts search potential matchups and styles.. Johnsons taylor made for Joe imo, i dont understand how he beats Joe?He hasnt got the KO power to stop Joe he will be there in front of Joe all night long, Joe is just to quick and will impose himself on Johnson for lob sided decision, someone pointed out Woods which i think is very relevant as Woods does nothing spectacular and comes at you in straight lines similar to Glen, Calzaghe would smash Johnson. Easy 12 rnds for Joe.Dawson would be his hardest test stylewise.

Well i thought Chad Dawson vs Glen Johnson was a draw, but i agree with JT Rock here. I think theres a reason Joe Calzaghe has sidestepped Glen Johnson. And thats because he is a bad style match up IMO, Joe Calzaghe has struggled in rough/physical fights with Robin Reid, Sakio Bika, Kabary Salem, ETC.

And just because Glen Johnson has lost to lesser fighters means nothing, haven't you heard of the old saying style makes fights ? Kirkland Laing gave Roberto Duran a boxing lesson, yet Kirkland Laing lost to much lesser fighters than Roberto Duran, and Roberto Duran beat much better fighters than Kirkland Laing. Plus most people wouldn't have even mentioned Kirkland Laing in the same breath, as Roberto Duran before there fight.

Glen Johnson is a much better pressure fighter, than the fighters i mentioned above. And is the master at rough/physical fights, i think he would give Joe Calzaghe a very good argument. Aslong as he doesn't get old overnight because he is reaching that stage, but if Glen Johnson fought the sameway as he did against Chad Dawson. Expect a very tough fight for Joe Calzaghe.

You have to be kidding? Johnson, a come forward semi-plodder, is a bad style match for Calzaghe?

The only reason Bika and Salem had Calzaghe in rough physical fights is because they DIDN'T come to fight they came to SURVIVE.

Johnson doesn't even have a punchers chance against Calzaghe.

Sakio Bika didn't come to survive he made it a rough/physical fight. And won most of the later rounds, and Sakio Bika is much more limited than Glen Johnson.

Glen Johnson is a master at rough/physical fights, he would close the distance. And go to work on the inside, plus his workrate is very good so Joe Calzaghe's workrate wouldn't bother him.

I somehow see this one going another 10 pages though.

He sure handled a younger RJJ better than Calzaghe.

I wouldnt call Johnson a late bloomer, he got seriously screwed up after the Hopkins fight. This happens all the time with Hopkins opponents. Joe might be the only guy who just stuck with his game plan after Hopkins, him and Jones. Nobody looks the same after Hopkins, but Johnson was cruising before Hopkins.
Hell Taylor "beat"(ha ha) Hopkins, and has never looked the same since then

I think Glenn could beat Calzaghe Joe pulled out with a bad back twice because he knew what would happen to him even Frank Warren himself has said Calzaghe was a nightmare to make fights for and he had pulled out of about 10 fights perhaps this is why he is 46-0.

Also Glenn is 40 next year so he fits into Calzaghe's opponent list nicely.

I like Johndon, and would like to see him have one last shot seeing as he's been there or there abouts, and also put a very good showing against Dawson. IMO he didn't win that fight, but it was very close.

Johnson's problem is that he is very one paced (not dimensional), same tempo throughout the fight. Against Dawson it was almost as if Chad could pick the rounds he wanted to win by picking the pace up past what Glenn could muster, though he didn't have the stamina to do it every round.

While Johnson is tough as nails and won't be stopped, he is tailor made for Calzaghe. While Bika did more than just come to survive against Joe, he was fighting on the back foot all night waiting to counter, which couldn't BE more different to Johnson's strategy. He has the same chance as anyone else against Calzaghe which is a punchers chance. The guys with the best chance of beating Joe are Hop and Kess, then probably Dawson of the guys he hasn't faced.

Bika doesn't fight anything like Johnson. Against Calzaghe he stood like a statue, the majority of the fight, waiting for Joe to get close enough for him to unleash headbutts and gooly shots. Apart from that, all he did was throw his huge wild wingers.

Johnson would be the one steadily coming forward - but look like he's moving in treacle compared with Joes speed, angles and volume. He tired quite markedly in the 3rd Woods fight. He'd never get away with that vs Calzaghe. So the workrate could be a big problem.
