Anyways Mike has never been as good going backwards for the same reason Cotto wasn't as effective against Margarito. Winky has never hit hard, but he really sticks his punches which makes it very hard to get off effectively when he is punching, and unlike what some looney wrote on here, Winky has just as high of a punch output as Mike when he wants to, he can rattle off plenty of punches, and he punches straighter, he will beat Mike to the mark with faster hands and better timing. That jab would never allow Mike to get set up effectively.
Im not sure how many fights you have seen of Mike McCallum but i don't think its many. Mike McCallum fought on the backfoot effectively alot of times, his fight with Milton McCrory comes to mind.

And Felix Trinidad/Fernando Vargas couldn't carry Mike McCallum's jock strap regarding body punching. Do you realize that Mike McCallum use to have opponents breathing heavy after just a couple of rounds ? he was a devastating body puncher and i mean devastating.

Jab's never bothered Mike McCallum he could slip it easy and counter to the body, he learned this in Kronk gym when he used to spar Thomas Hearns. He could easily slip Thomas Hearns jab and counter to his body, Thomas Hearns said Mike McCallum was the only one who ever done that to him. He also effectively was able to avoid James Toney's jab alot.

Mike McCallum is also very good at using angles, he would slip left/right ETC. And punch from all different angles, i really don't think you realize how good Mike McCallum was. At 35 he schooled James Toney in there 2nd fight, and James Toney is for certain on par with Winky Wright's defense.

Mike McCallum only ever struggled with movers like Sumbu Kalambay, Winky Wright is mostly a stationary target. And Mike McCallum would for certain hit Winky Wright's body alot, Fernando Vargas despite what you think was effective to the body.

Mike McCallum is more well rounded than Winky Wright, Mike McCallum throws more variety of punches, he uses angles and he punches to the body and head effectively. I think it would be a mixture of inside/outside fighting with Mike McCallum winning with his superior body punching.

James Toney has never been on par defensively with WInky WRight, Wright is up there with Hopkins, Whitaker, MAyweather. I didn't say McCallum wasn't good going backwards, but he wasn't AS good. And going backwards has never helped a body attack, and both Trinidad and Vargas were great body punchers at that point in their career, its bullshit to say Trinidad wasn't in anybodies league when it came to body punching, that left hook was a killer to the body.

Also maybe you haven't watched Winky in his prime because he has used plenty of movement until maybe the last four years, against Mosley it was his footwork as much as everything else that caused Shane so many problems.

Also MCcallum never schooled James Toney in any of their fights, they were all close fights, but James Toney's style of defense is horrible against a guy that goes to the body because thats the easiest part of him to hit. That was a good matchup on paper for Mike, and age as we've seen with Calzaghe, Hopkins, etc. doesn't necessarily mean you've slipped that much.

Bernad was what 36? when he fought Trinidad. Looked pretty good to me.

As For Mike being more well rounded, how so? Winky just didn't have power, he had a great cross, he could fight on the inside, he incredibly hard to compete with on the outside. look at Trinidad he was a great fighter if you stood in front of him, he had trouble with movement until he faced Wright, its so hard to get inside on WRight, and when you do its even tough to land anything cleanly.

I pick Winky, McCallum is too old now.

In their primes, I would still take Winky because McCallum was never the greatest defender and would have a hard time on the inside. That was his bread and butter, inside throwing like 6 body sgots in a row. Winky on points winning with the jab and counters.

McCallum would win, he beat better fighters and Winky brings nothing to the table that Mike has not dealt with before.
