Default Has a Buddy McGirt fighter EVER won a big fight

I swear that guy has to have the worst record of any trainer. Can anyone seriously recall a buddy McGirt fighter winning a big fight?

How does he keep getting work?

The fighter is what makes the trainer, not the other way around.

Yes, most of McGirt fighters have lost their big fights, but in almost all those cases, McGirt's fighter wasn't as good as his opponent.

Tarver was a big favorite against Hopkins, but in hindsight, I think we'd all agree that Hopkins is a much better fighter than Tarver. Can anyone seriously blame McGirt for Gatti's loss to Mayweather? Gatti could have had Eddie Futch and Angelo Dundee working his corner and he still would've gotten dominated.

    Agreed and well said.

Theres not a lot you can do to get a one handed fighter with ZERO power to beat a guy great at slipping jabs and getting inside on slicksters.

Gatti improved a lot on his 2nd fight with Micky Ward..I thought this was a big fight considering the 1st war was a fight of the year (IMO also won the round of the year) winner.this fight was really anticipated by boxing fans and nobody expected gatti would dominate.it was lopsided,I thought McGirt deserves the credit.

Couldn't agree more. Not only does McGirt's fighters not win big fights his fighters seem to get worse as Buddy comes on as trainer. Paulie is a great example. He's looked worse in every fight since McGirt came aboard.

The thing is, that McGirt was telling Paulie exactly the right thing to do and Paulie wasn't doing it, don't know how you can hold that against McGirt.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I agree with you on that. The funny thing is McGirt seems to tell his fighters the right thing. It's hard to figure out, maybe it's something that goes on in training, idk. But his fighters just seem to get worse with him as their trainer.
