Its always carefully calculated by Oscar so as to minimise the threat. Pac was fighting at 130 pounds at the start of this year. Oscar has been up to middleweight and is comfortable at 154. Its a farce. On paper it looks horrendous, but Pac has a big heart and is game so fair play to him. But as for Oscar....

I would much rather DLH fought Calzaghe at a catchweight of 166 pounds. Now that would be a huge fight and Oscar would look so STUPID. Pavlik would be fun too and could happen at 160. Of course, DLH would never be so game as to take on such fights. DLH is no Joe Calzaghe and and Pac is no DLH so Pac will probably not look so stupid in this fight.

Come on Manny, rid the world of this stain upon boxing.

    Interesting
I started a thread more or less saying I normally loathe DLH, but in this particular fight,Im rooting for him.
And it turns out 10 years of hating him ever since he said he wanted to quit boxing to be an actor, isnt even close to how some other people feel about him

You know miles you keep playing this hate card on Oscar and your saying he is palying it safe but your boy Calzaghe your favorite fighter played it safe in one of the weakest division in boxing for 10 years so i dont think you can praise one guy and get down on another who has fought better competion in his career as a whole just does not make sense why you do that i know your not dumb but ever thread same thing and well i mean what did you think of him fighting Roy jones jr because that was as big of a farce then this fight is with Oscar Dela Hoya why is it people hate a man with one of the best resume and has done so much for boxing dont get it is not the best fight but it while probably be bigger then any fight of late.

Sure Oscar's A-team costs a lot, but as I see it, it practically pays for itself giving people additional confidence in him, which probably translate into bigger receipts.

Training at Big Bear, chopping wood, and those guys that he has with him is nice and all, but how much of it is truly necessary? How much of it is just creating an image for himself so that more people will buy into this spectacle? Would you be any more surprised if you saw Delahoya chasing chickens in the next 24/7?

Realistically Delahoya just needs train hard to ensure that he's half-way decent condition and makes the weight. Everything else is just smiles for the camera.

Now obviously he has a good left hook, he has the size, and he showed against Mayweather that he's not blown away with fast hands. The only question on my mind is how's he going to handle a quick little guy like Pac who has the workrate that could give him problems. In sparring didn't he have trouble with smaller fighters that could match his workrate, take Valero and Ortiz for instance.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

I think its really necessary at this point,he isnt fighting just fighting Pac anymore,he's also fighting time.
I only wished he'd showed this lock down mode earlier in his career. Lets face it,DLH spent most of his career taking his talent for granted, who knows what he could have been if he had trained for every fight this way?

It'd surely have been a different story if had Oscar stuck it out with his old trainer Rivero, instead hooking up with every big name trainer. Combine that with hard work and Delahoya would have been a wrecking machine instead of a potential wreck waiting to happen.

I can see your point of view now, he is definately working his goldenboy ass off, and although getting his experts is may in part be a publicity move, it is also a smart move.

Its honestly the first time I can see him treating a fight like its do or die time. Im used to Oscar constantly flashing those pearly whites and hoping to get by on raw talent.
Maybe its Dundee and Nacho getting under his skin, maybe its that he can see the end of his road ahead, but for the first time in his career,he's making me feel like he's taking this fight very seriously.
My biggest question,is it just too late

Well said. And lets not forget...even though he lost...Oscar went up past his limit to fight Bernard Hopkins. Oscar could fight a bunch of bozo's for his last several fights...and his resume is still just as good, if not better than any fighter in recent years. Don't get me wrong, the man is no angel...he is a business man and his facade can seem fake. But there has been very few, if any, fighters in history who have the kind of success in AND out the ring like Delahoya. That doesn't come from just being a pretty face...the man is smart and hardworking. I also go back to my original point...there is almost no fighter in the business today that wouldn't kill to be in Oscar's shoes. If that's a good thing or not...is a whole another story. But that's the reality of the business of boxing. Sure he generates tons of money for himself...but he also brings money and publicity to the sport AND his opposition. There is obviously WAY more people who like him, whatever the reason, than who do not like him. Otherwise he wouldn't still be the biggest name in boxing. So some of you might dislike him as a person or fighter...but don't hate on him for being successful and popular.

Don't take me too seriously with the whole Oscar thing. I do dislike him, just something about him that grates and doesnt ring true. You cannot admire and repsect every fighter. I watched that 24/7 episode and he's talking about how when he runs he thinks about his family and this gives him "the power". He says such corny things.

I can appreciate the scale that DLH brings and I do think he has some very good wins on his resume. But I do think DLH has been pretty rubbish for the last five years. I think Sturm did enough to beat him too. So Oscar has beaten Forbes and Mayorga in half a decade. Admittedly, he has been fighting top level fighters. But he keeps on falling short, and people want to see him keep trying? I just think its getting a bit trying. And to want to make a fight with Pacquiao reeks of desperation. Oscar just isnt relevant to boxing anymore. A win over Pac means nothing, but it does mean Oscar is that much richer. And that is the only motivation I can see here. Its certainly not about legacy or significant new challenges.

You make a fair point regarding Calzaghe. I wish he had stepped it up earlier. He has always had the skills to beat anybody. I was certainly critical when the fight with Jones Jr was made and I most definitely did some complaining way back when the Manfredo fight was made. Calzaghe has fought plenty of bums and his share of fighters that had perhaps seen better days. I wont deny that. My only defence is that he beat them all and when he has stepped it up, he has done it pretty impressively. He didnt just beat Jones Jr. he took every round after the first. Wonderful fighter to watch.

I dont like DLH and hope he gets beaten. He usually does these days anyway!!

I hope Pac knocks DLH on his ass... stands over him... and calls him his bitch.
