I'm not sure how far my phobia of snakes goes because of limited experience of them, but I can safely say that a sea snake would scare me more than any spider..
One time I was staying up at the Murray and during our three week stay there we saw 2 snakes right in our camp. There was an area where we would swim, and fortunately this particular day none of us were swimming in there, but we were pulling in our fishing rods, and this snake same slithering across the top of the water right through our swimming spot and up onto the banks.. Let me tell you it was 10 times as scary heading across the water.. If I was in there up to my neck in water, and I saw that snake coming along at head height, and not really having any way of getting away from it fast, that would have been the worst.. I'm pretty sure it was a red belly black snake as well as it came up the bank and through the middle of our camp before going off into the brush, and we got a good look at it.
The bad thing with being in the water is that you can't get away from things fast... At least on land you can kind of run from a snake if you're on the ball, but being up to your neck in water and seeing a shark or a sea snake would be terrifying. One thing that keeps me from ever going scuba diving is the thought of a sea snake coming at or around me while i'm under water... They look so evil how they move through the water just like they do on land.. Except they just kind of float along as well like a dragon... evil.... Those huge Moray eels are pretty evil creatures as well..
