Your thoughts on this article about Steve Molitor?

The article you refer to was pretty inconsequential IMO, and I really don't think Canadians as a whole are dumping on Molitor, just because this article says so.

I liked Molitor, still do, I thought he showed good skills and he had a pretty good run. Hell, even the inimitable ICE COLD BOXING had him in his top ten I believe. But exposed? Well yeah kinda, I'm sorry to say, cause he looked like he hadn't a clue how to deal with the reach and height advantage of a guy like Caballero.

I agree he didn't have a clue versus Caballero and that there are now questions about his chin, but luckily for Molitor he'll never have to deal with another fighter with the size advantage of a Caballero, the guy is a freak for the weight class. I'm not even saying he wasn't exposed, but only time will tell if that is the case.

I read a few articles about Molitor following the fight, and some the of the ones from Canadian sources were pretty harsh. Here are a couple I found in a quick search, only the first one is more critical than the second one, but comparing Molitor to De Witt is ludicrous IMO.

Molitors got youth and he's def. got time to gather himself up and get back in there.

PAC suffered 2 knockout losses early in his career and his 3rd loss, a UD12 3 years ago... but look at where is he now? No. 1 P4P best boxer of the world...

You may well be right CMM, probably he could come back if he wanted to. But like I said, he's had a good run as champ, probably made some decent dinero, I wouldn't hold it against him if he decided to hang em up, and find something else to do that was a little less risky for his health. We'll see, either way I support him.

We as boxing fans are cruel and tend to write fighters off after just one loss often times. Just because a fighter loses to one fighter it shouldn't negate everything else they did. Also why in the heck should molitor retire as someone else said there aren't many 120 lbers in the world that stand at 5'11, cabalero is somewhat a freak of nature. Also a quick scan through cabalero's record reveals a 3rd round knockout loss, it's all in molitor's hands.

There isn't much to say regarding this, that hasn't been posted already.

Steve was in deep in this fight, and the outcome was no shocker. Many of us knew he may be in over his head, but yet we still rooted for him, and we still hoped.

The end result was disappointing in that it wasn't a better fight. In that Steve was never in it. He often takes a few rounds and feels out his opponent. Then he goes to work. He may have gotten too much of a feel early in this one...as in, before he even stepped in the ring. I truly think Cabellaro was in his head...and in a big way. I know what this can do to a person in the ring. And especially against a big tall fighter. You start to question everything. It isn't a pretty process, and a total mindfuk.

Mental preparation is nearly as important as physical. You need to know you are going to win. Fear is not good or acceptable, and is as counter productive if not moreso then anger. And Steve looked scared. He looked unsure. He looked unready. He was not IMO, prepared in any way mentally for this fight.

And Canadians, while we often like and even can be appreciated for our ability to laugh at ourselves, we sometimes like to take it a step further and ridicule our fellow canadian to the point of meanness and irrationale. This I see in the writings and some sentiment following Steve Molitors loss to Cabellaro.

He got a loss. I think he can use it to his advantage and learn. The secret to his success will be in how his career is managed from here on in. If done wisely, it continues on and he'll do well. If done poorly, like so many others, he'll be but a fleeting memory on the history books of boxing.

I do and will still root for him.

He fought a 5'11" bomber and couldn't handle his power. Cab's arms seemed to be twice the length of molitor's. If cab goes on to be the top of the division, then molitor has nothing to be ashamed of, he lost to the best.
