Solid advice. However, I'd do my best to ignore him bro. He's middle-aged and working full-time at a supermarket, life is already kicking his ass for you. I'd wager no one there has any respect for him anyways, so I doubt they take what he says to heart. This is your first job, and you're going to need a reference from it, so beating him to a bloody pulp would probably be detrimental to your future employment, not to mention the negative effects a criminal record would carry. You'd be hurting yourself by doing that, in my experience anyways.
If it gets really bad and it's making you not want to go to work etc., then go to his boss about it (unless they're friends or something). I like the idea of asking him to move you to a dept. where you won't have to deal with the idiot.
Good luck mate.

In your working life you wil run into people you don't like, and people who don't like you. It's inevitable. Most people know how to act professional. That is the key, act professionally. Sometimes there is not much you can do. An open verbally abusive confrontation with a co-worker, where others can see and hear, is almost never a good thing. Your boss will not be pleased, regardless of who is at fault.
Because this guy is twice your age, directly confronting him may not be the best thing, and likely won't help matters. You may wish to get advice and/or help from an older co-worker whom you trust and is sympathetic to your situation. Going to your boss (not his if the two are different) might be a good idea, just make sure you have very good justification.
Cheers Josh some great advice there.
And yes nobody really likes him there. Some woman reported him last week after she heard him calling me a "Shithead", she said that was way out of line.
Not sounding big headed here but I think he could be jealous of me.
I'm on the verge of passing my A-levels and already have a bunch of GCSE'S. He's stuck in a supermarket working 40 hours a week knowing he won't get any further in life. I'm currently learning to drive and I've booked my test. He can't drive and he lives a good way from the workplace. He also knows in 10 years time I'll have a good job with the grades I've got and I'm basically using his workplace as a stepping stone for better things.
Oh and I agree Josh I would only consider hitting out at him if he layed a finger on me. A criminal record is the last thing I need.
damn i hate people like those fags. i usually ignore them because it really doesnt get to me that much only when i was working at Buffalo Wild Wings and this jerk of a manager was always giving me shit. especially when we were busy and he tell me to do this and do that i just wanted to slash his fukin tires.
but its really better just to ignore him. but if u ever get ready to quit just take a fuk load of stuff thats wat i did.![]()
Yeah, you got your whole future ahead of you, this is just a little hiccup. Your co-workers actions demonstrate how well-respected this guy is, I'm sure you boss(es) are well aware of his attitude. If it's been reported, I'm sure they'll deal with it.
Bitter old (and not so old) jerks like that are a dime a dozen man, you just can't let 'em get to ya. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to deal with many people like that over the course of your life. The only way they can really affect you is if you give them the power to do so. Easier said than done of course, but try to shrug it of, try not to let it get ya down, and if it becomes a real problem you can always go to your boss about it.
Anyways, I'm not saying anything you don't already know. Good luck.
personally mate id just ask the guy out right what his problem is.. I would be interested to hear what he got to say if u confront him...
dont Fuck with the chuck
