My biggest beef with this was Ali at number 2 and Sam Langford being at 10. Now that I look at it again Sugar Ray Leonard at 12 is absurd and Marvin Hagler at 35 the man terrorized the middleweight division for 10 years plus and was dodged by Leonard and many others for years. Marcel Cerdan at 25 and Lamotta at 28 something certainly wrong there. Benny Leonard not in the top ten. Harry Greb at 13 should definetly be in the top ten any man who can fight while being blind in one eye and winning nonetheless should easily be placed in the top ten. Greb and Benny Leonard should be switched. One more if I am not mistaken didn't Saddler beat Willie Pep 3 out of 4 times how and why the hell is Saddler rated so low at 29. Ted Kid Williams and Larry Holmes at least move up ten to fifteen spots.

    What a BS list
Hopkins holds the record for middleweight defenses, and moved up to take another title, and he's 47th
Holmes was one robbery decision away from tying Marciano for undefeated champs, and he's below Frazier?

If you wanna put Calzaghe up there, then you should probably consider a guy like Eusebio Pedroza, with 18 Featherweight title defenses against overall much tougher opposition.

I've also never understood why Joe Frazier gets rated so high, he is very overrated i'd love to know what he did. To be rated much higher than Larry Holmes, i also feel George Foreman gets very overrated aswell, he had two brief title reigns.

A little category called mainstream appeal explains these ones.

Joe Frazier won the Biggest fight Ever. He was the first man ever to beat Muhammad Ali. He was undisputed heavyweight champion in THE single greatest era of heavyweight boxing, and he was an Olympic gold medalist.

Forman was a two time undisputed heavyweight champion, once in the greatest era of heavyweight boxing and again 20 years latter in the 2nd greatest era of heavyweight boxing. He is the first person to beat Joe Frazier and did it by knockout. Twice.

As I said at the time when that ESPN list was originally posted...

the fact that Pernell was behind Oscar was downright laughable. No matter what the criteria was.

Fightfan, Probably the reason why Pepp is higher than Saddler, is because Saddler Beat Pepp after the plane crash. Surgeons said He would be lucky to even walk again, after the injurys Pepp recieved, He certainly wasnt the Fighter He was before the crash.

Got to say these all time lists are highly biased towards old fighters.

I mean Joe Luis at 4, really?

Apart from Schmelling who did he ever beat? His era was as weak as our modern era. Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Ali, Foreman and Frazier would all be favourites to beat him imo.

Marciano too has a record less impressive than Joe Calzaghe. Again who did he beat?

Henry Armstrong did a great feat but Manny has done as much already imo and could go on to do more.

In all seriousness I really think Manny is top 10 already with guys like B Hop and Roy Jones thereabouts too.
