Huh? Haven't we just been discussing that displaying soles of feet, and throwing shoes, has a very specific implication that is particular to Arabic culture? And my point is that these days it is in nobody's interest for the president to belittle any aspect of Arabic culture. He should be careful about that sort of stuff, wouldn't you say? So as not to offend any more people than he already has?
Although perhaps I was a little insensitive in my portrayal of Bush's cultural insenitivity.
I think the "offended" people had better just grab a big old glass of get over it. You live on a fucking gold mine of oil and then go on to be offended at EVERYTHING....when do WE as westerners stop trying to be nice and understanding and just tell them to fuck off
CGM it doesn't matter if we crawled across the desert to kiss their asses they would find fault with our ways and our culture. And while I am all for respecting other people's culture (I truly am, I know many of you might not believe it but it's true) but where do we draw the line because there is a large vocal group of muslims that want us to change OUR culture to better suit their views. I understand trying to get these people to understand and even enjoy Democracy is a big culture shock and giving rights to women is a big culture shock but these are things that NEED to happen in order for these people to climb out of the stone age and become a part of the real world.
fair enough Lyle, in retrospect I realize there is a grain or two of salt involved in this whole affair. And that when things (shoes) happen quickly, people tend to react (crack a joke) quickly. And I think you are saying that is a part (albeit a small part) of the American way. And yeah, it likely is not going to make a big difference to died in the wool haters of the US. I still say making light of the incident, or saying "fuck you if you don't like it", is not the way to go about things, if you are interested in getting the nonhating part of the Arab world onside, but I suppose in retrospect I may be making too much of the situation.
There are a big bunch of people in both western and Arab countries who think the other lot should change and be just like them and everything would be much better. What would actually make things much better is if the west got the fuck off the Arabian peninsula and the region in general and stopped interfering with and manipulating their governments and their oil. Because until they do the west, and mainly America, is rightly going to get the blame for said interference and suffer various acts of terrorism because of it.
Hey if they want us to go away then just give us all the oil and we'll leave you alone....without oil the Middle East is nothing
Oh but Andre who are WE to tell people how to run their cultureIf they want to throw acid on girls going to school and stone to death rape victims then who are we too try and keep them from doing so
?
Yes OUR culture needs the changing![]()
Exactly, you have to stand up for the innocent.
Trouble is we take them out right along with the leaders through economy of war fare and that is wrong you cant excuse that anyway you try to and when some try to in terms of money and time its even worse.
Hiroshima Nagasaki was a them or us situation and justified as the only means to that end; cause the Japs would of just kept comming but Iraq wasnt and isnt a threat to us but was made out to be for the grand excuse so we the tax payers can sleep with an easier consiouss and not vote the murdering pricks out.
We sold them the weapons that we said were weapons of mass destruction. We knew wee out gunned them cause that was all our old stuff.
Yeah if they fought an unarmed Barcelonia population ,maybe they did have weapons of mass destruction, but seriously,"fuk the general public, theirs and ours, this is business".
Iraq was a threat to the allies of the US and to innocent people in that very country...NO we shouldn't have gone in there, however, we DID take out Saddam so right now we OWN the problem that is Iraq.
The Afghanistan situation IMO deserved TOTAL WAR....if you're a safe haven for people like Bin Laden then there should be merciless bombings of the entire country a scale that Russia didn't even go to. Men, women, children.....no one should have been safe there, they EARNED an old school beat down. We should have bombed them into oblivian and then salted the Earth so nothing would ever grow there ever again. But that's just how I feel
In what way was Iraq a threat to America or its dictatorship allies?
If a substantial number of Americans hadn't bought the bs and dutifully wet the bed over the clear and present threat Saddam posed to them there'd have been no way Bush could have got his oil war on.
Afghanistan is another war Bush started, claimed victory and then lost.
Well #1 Saddam didn't recognize the terms of the treaty of the Persian Gulf War which sad to say was a VALID reason for war but we heard the same shit the UN has been spewing since it was created "Give sanctions more time"....I think that is their fucking motto! #2 He had his eyes on Kuwait before and seeing how he still had an army well it was only a matter of time.
Kirkland we ARE the nice and innocent party, we are willing to pay them a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money for their product and they are living in the fucking stone age. OUR culture is the better culture and I say that knowing full well we do have our faults and they are big, but we are the culture of freedom and liberty. Also THANK YOU ENGLAND for being the first to stir the pot with these jackasses.
No we arent,Iraq complied.
Admitably they tried to get around it in the 90's,but the 90's arent the 00's.
And we did consistently attack them in the 90's. I'll grant,it didnt have a clever name like "Operation Desert Penis Extender", but we bombed the snot out of that country persistantly for the entire decade. If they had even tried to get weapons of mass destruction, they got turned in to a crater.
And please dont give me(because I knew you were going to) the feed line about them being Muslims, because I hate to break it to you,Iraq had a secular goverment under Sadaam. The head of the military was a Christian.
