Well that was a surprise. To me at least, but then again I had never seen Balzsay before.
As I said he had a very good jab and a good 1-2 (textbook euro fighter-style), and Inkin never really found a way to deal with it. I would hate to see Inkin against a really good southpaw, say Calzaghe. That would be brutal. Also, Inkin would have gone down several times had he faced a Froch or Kessler. He left himself surprisingly open.
As for Balzsay I am (still) convinced that he would lose to the elite guys in the division, although his orthodox stance and textbook 1-2 might pose a few problems for some. Froch would be an interesting fight (and I'll favour Froch, but not by as much as I would had the fight been proposed an hour ago).
I don't know if a rematch is in the cards, but I wouldn't be surprised. And I wouldn't be dissapointed either, as I dont see Balzsay taking on big names (more likely he will go down the road of his countryman and stable mate Zsolt Erdei, who defended his title earlier today on the same card), and I certainly would give Inkin a chance in the rematch.
But he has to findd out how to deal with a southpaw first.
[Final note: I apologise for not having a clue how to spell Balzsay's name in the above posts]
Southpaws are some fighter's achille's heel.
Froch with his low left and high right, deals easily with them.
Kessler has fought beyer etc who were southpaws.
Inkin was busted up tonight.
Thanks for the RBR.
Just to finish off this night for me, Zsolt Erdei was pretty much schooling Yuri Barashian in the co-headliner and WBO 175 title-clash. When will Erdei fight someone good? Never?
According to boxrec he won his title back in January 2004. That's five years, people.
Also on tonight's undercard Dimitri Sartison followed up on his loss to Kessler with a unspectacular UD and former IBF challenger Robert Stieglitz had a TKO. Both their opponents had losing records.
