Thought I'd through this in the mix Compubox statistical analysis

HBO: Boxing: WCB: Margarito vs. Mosley: RUNNING THE NUMBERS WITH COMPUBOX

"Out of respect for Mosley's proven durability, the prediction will be a comfortable unanimous decision for Margarito but if anyone has the tools to inflict the first stoppage loss on Mosley it is the "Tijuana Tornado." "

    - Compubox 2009 Bob Canobbio

HBO.com: Video Player: Margarito vs. Mosley: Fight Week

    Weigh in coverage.

Jerry Belmontes 128.5 vs. Jesus Hernandez 127.5 both overweight.

Brian Ramirez 130.5 underweight vs. Luis Tapia 135 Overweight? Announced as a 134 fight must be some kind of catchweight. Tapia has one hour to lose one pound or forfeit, Tapia is going to pay a fine to still go on with the fight.

Shane Mosley 147.0 vs. Antonio Margarito 145.8

Sugar Shane comes in at 147.2 and needs to be weighed again, they are saying there were too many people on stage.
Margarito says that he trained hard to make sure he is at weight well before the weighin and that Mosley's weight is his problem.
He said that he understands Mosley has a lot of experience and that's why he's trained hard.
The official watching the scale says that, for the title to be on the line for Sugar he needs to lose 0.2 pounds within the next hour.
Ok Sugar steps back on the scale and makes 147. WBA title is officially on the line.
Shane says he's ready to go, he says all he wants is the fans respect and concedes Margarito is a great champ.

That's not a good sign for Shane.

I took flier on Shane by SD in the prediction contest. It's just hard for me to bet against him. Everytime I think he's done, he puts on a great performance.

I think there is a chance that Shane's faster hands, toughness, and experience could let him steal this one. A very small chance. If Tony comes in and gives away a few rounds early, which he often does, he's going to give Shane a chance to be in the fight. Shane has never been stopped and he is known for his chin. Cotto beat Shane essentially by turning boxer and using his better jab in the last few rounds to control the fight. Shane isn't going to outbox Margo, but he still has faster hands than Cotto and he probably hits just as hard, if not harder. Also, Mosley doesn't lean forward as far as Cotto, and this body position make him vulnerable to Tony's best punches - his uppercuts. Shane is more upright and he's less likely to eat those punches. Cotto was actually a very good matchup for Tony. Shane, on the other hand, has only lost to fighters with very good jabs - Winky, Forrest, and Cotto.

I actually thought that Mayorga deserved a lot of credit in the Mosley fight. He fought as well as I've seen him fight in a very long time and for a change, he was properly conditioned for the bout, but once Shane figured him out and realized he could take his punches, he took over the fight.

Unfortunately for Shane, he can't spend the first few rounds trying to figure out Tony and decide if he can be hurt by him. He's going to need come out guns blazing and risk getting hurt early. If he starts slow and lets Tony get into his rhythm, it's a wrap.

Margarito all the way for me. Yes Shane pushed Cotto close, but there was a point around the 7/8th where he looked and done and Cotto let him back in the fight, something Marg won't do if he's in half the condition he was in last summer.

I pick Mosely just because i enjoy parody. The only way he can win, I think is to dance and keep a jab in Margo face- every round he tries to stand toe-to-toe he'll lose.

But Hell, I thought Cotto would beat Margo too. I'm just glad this fight is happening and it's on HBO and not PPV.

Good post.Agreed ecspecially on Mosley needing to come out early and strong.Going against all logic myself....I think He needs to jump on Tony, this fight is as much mental as physical and he needs to get into Margaritos frame of mind from the very start.I think Margarito will have some big effect on Mosley to the body but he really can not over due those long shots from the outside....uppercuts mainly, keep it close and tight, weary of Mosley clinching.Shane is not what he was,but he can still capitalize with a fast hard rights/left hook to inviting targets.I like Tony very late or by w.12

Exactly. Paul Williams took Tony out of his game by jumping on him early with volume. For all of Paul's size and reach, it didn't really factor against Tony. Paul just jumped on him from the start and didn't let up. If Mosley is consistently strafing Margarito with rights and sharp hooks from the start, he has a chance to stop him from getting into his "terminator" mode where he just becomes an attack machine that cannot be stopped by anything short of a high yield nuke.

Never count Mosely out... That guy has a natural armor to him, Shane is as solid as Margarito with the durability in chin dept

I did not know Shane was getting divorced.

I thought he had a solid marrage.Remember somthing about him and family in The Ring a few years ago and they seemed very happy'
