Default If you were Cotto's closest advisor, what would you tell him now?

I was just thinking about this and wanted to see what people thought. Now that Mosley has defeated Tony, I think Cotto is in a pretty tough situation. The Tony rematch always made sense because he was basically winning the fight after the first 8 rounds but basically couldn't deal with the pressure over 12 rounds. I feel like with a change in strategy it's a winnable fight. Plus, Tony was still the kingpin of the division so winning the rematch would give Cotto back the crown.

After Tony's loss, the question is, is that even a fight that Cotto should take now? I still think Tony is one of the toughest fights at 147 for anybody. Fact of the matter is that Cotto has a decision over Mosley, should he pursue a rematch with Mosley instead, should he pursue other options like a Berto fight, like a Clottey fight? Will he have a cloud over his head until he fights Tony again? If he loses to Tony in the rematch, will he be diminished like Cintron currently is? I think Cotto has the tools to be an elite fighter but I'd hate for a second loss to Tony to ruin him mentally. What advice would yall give Cotto if you were his closest advisor?

Get another gay tribal tattoo, and stay away from Tony, because the same thing will probably happen.

I personally think a rematch makes sense.
It would mean avenging his only loss.

If for some reason fight Margarito can't happen, the IMO the next best thing would be a SSM rematch.

I've been saying this for a while now but I can def. see Cotto fight at 154 and would like to see him there in the future.

IMO this rematch would be great , Cotto need to avenge this loss and to me theres no doubt that Cotto can win , is like always i said in the past , Cotto needed to make the fight that Mosley did , i don't think that Cotto is ruin mentally , he looks very confident as i see , he need a chance to luxury himself with Jenning , then we can make comments with more certainty regard of him on what going happen to next , but to me i think that Mosley could comes first then Margaro ......................

ha ha ha. At first glance I thought this read "If you were Cotto's closet advisor..."

We still don't know what Cotto has left after the beating Margarito gave him. Cotto should fight Margarito again and force himself to use the Shane strategy.

I'd tell him to worry about the fight he has coming up and nothng else. Nothing else matters if you don't win the fights you already have.

I'd tell him "At least you beat Mosley"

I'd do nothing except continue to get him physically and mentally prepared for his upcoming fight at the Garden. I'd also send "subliminal" messages to him regarding the possibilty that Margo used gloves that were "tampered" with. This will help him deal with the reality of the beating he took and possibly give him the mental "edge" he needs to actually justify it. Regardless of what anyone will tell you... his confidence has been shaken and the "Hand Wrap" incident" can be used to build not only his confidence but the promotion of the potential Cotto/Margo rematch ( remember, this is a business).

Then of copurse I'd wait and see how he does in the comeback fight. If all goes according to plan. We let Bob Arum (also Margo's promoter) put together the rematch and try to insist on having it in the Garden on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Arum will rather keep the money in house on this one and let Mosely wait around for Hatton/Pacman hoping that Manny beats the Brit.

most of the reason tony lost was because he couldn't hit mosley. Mosley is too good defensively. Tony got caught by a left out of left field in the eighth. Part of the reason was that mosley had Margarito pretty tired at that point with all the punches that he missed. Cotto can't make margarito miss like that. Cotto would be destroyed again.
