So out of the 87,000 tournament players in the US you are better, after just a couple games than 85260 of them!

You comfortably amongst the top 2000 best chessplayers in the whole of North America, out of a population 303,826,640 people.

Also, is your number all people who play, or just "serious players". I was leaning more towards serious players.

The US and Canada aren't exactly big chess playing countries. My 10% number was more of a worldwide thing. The US and Canada are somewhere down the list on a per capita basis, compared to many Europearn countries. But yeah, 10% is a conservative estimate.
