Roy Jones Jr. was already a very well established fighter at 47-1 (the loss was by DQ as well), he was a champion at a couple of weight classes AND the #1 Pound 4 Pound fighter at the time that fight was made.
David Haye is 22-1 and has already been KO'd and isn't anywhere close to top 20 Pound 4 Pound
Right he had been a champ at 3 at the time the fight was made but had only been undisputed at one because he moved through MW and SMW fairly swiftly. Haye has also been undisputed at one! Fair enough he is not #1 p4p but you'll find him in a lot of p4p lists and way above Wlad in most.
To be totally honest I think your right I think he should fight more at HW before he gets a title shot (unless it was Valuev) and prove he totally deserves his shot but I really think he would destroy everyone on your earlier list and I honestly think the only people who COULD beat him at the moment are the Klitschko's but I don't see a foregone conclusion. At the end of the day he has power and speed and Wlad is quite chinny so these are big things that go against Wlad.
so you saying that it was ok for roy to fight for the title but not haye who is only 1 weight division below heavy & was the undisputed champ of cruiser? where as roy fought at light heavy? i am not being defensive here just wondered?
many fighters have moved up weight divisions & captured titles.
Roy had the clout to go and fight for A title. He beat a very weak title holder, he never tried to unify, he never defended the titles, and he never sought out a fight with Chris Byrd much less The Klitschko's.
I think it's best for boxing if Haye creates a resume at heavyweight before fighting Wladimir but if you want to see Haye get his ass stomped then fine by me, just don't complain about what a one sided beat down it was after it's over.
Big talk from a guy who is supporting the very same David Haye who got KO'd by the ancient Carl Thompson
