How was Ike more liberal than Obama? Sure income taxes during his time were higher but other than that I don't think he did much that you can consider liberal.
Yeah I don't quite get that one, Ike at least considered himself a fiscal conservative and at that time Republicans were more about that, now they just spend and spend and spend and then are hypocritical enough to complain about it when they lose the Presidency. I just can't miss an opportunity to shit on them, nice fake tan Boehner.
But in what area was he more liberal? Foreign policy? I don't see how honestly. Domestic policy? He clearly was no proponent of civil rights.

Pushing civil rights doesn't make someone liberal, neither does making the highway system.
Sure Ike taxed people but he believed a free market should run itself UNLIKE a true liberal.
I'm sick to death of people touting the Democrats' record of race relations....Trainer, Robert C. Byrd (DEMOCRAT) is the Senior Senator of West Virginia and he was in the Ku Klux Klan and it's not like that's the one bad apple of the Democrat Party.....they have had a HISTORY of racists

Except Byrd apologized
You walked right in to that one Lyle
There are a larger group that didn't appologize and since you've tried to dig through history instead of just bringing up David Duke.

That's just the All-Star selection of racist Democrats....would Barack Obama have voted for any of those dudes![]()
While more times than not I completely disagree with Lyle, I think it's very important to question the government and I commend him for doing so.
I disagree that political activist is an exclusive liberal term however, Bin Laden is very conservative yet he is a political activist, most state militia's could be considered political activists and they are also conservative. Indeed further, lobbyists define political activism, and they run the entire spectrum of political affiliation.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Strom changed parties....Jesse was a life long Republican AND a card carrying member of the ACLU![]()
Why do you keep doing this to yourself Lyle?
Helms' first full-time job after college was as a sports reporter with The Raleigh Times.[23] During World War II, Helms served stateside as a recruiter in the United States Navy. After the war, he pursued his twin interests, journalism and politics (at that time, within the Democratic Party). Helms became the city news editor of The Raleigh Times and later moved to radio and television.
Helms himself never ran as anything other than a Republican....although I am aware of the fact that he helped a Democrat beat up on Franklin Porter Graham
OK so if Trent Lott never "technically" ran as a dixiecrat then why the hell are you trying to bring it up....I don't care. All I am saying is if you look at Jesse Helms you're only going to see an R by his name. Whereas with Strom Thurmond he ran as a Democrat a couple times....even as a State's Rights Candidate for President in 1948.
But hey whatever makes you happy....as long as all you liberals can be happy I don't mind
The Democrats used to have all the Southern segregationist/racist politicians and used to win the southern States in elections the way the GOP do now. Then they backed a civil rights agenda and told all the southerners to sign up to it or leave the party. Some like Byrd signed up to it but a bunch couldn't face giving black folks equal rights and left and joined the GOP, who became the party of the south instead of the Democrats.
