Mayweather didn't use his elbow to hit him or anything, all he would do is push him off, he's not the first or the last fighter to do this, Hopkins does it and so would Jones, the do it to make distance and be able to get shots in before getting in close again, next thing we'll be hearing from some die hard Hatton fans is that Joe Cortez took the padding off of the turnbuckle then Floyd rammed his head into it lol then the title will be the WBCWWE title
Mayweather uses his forearm as a contact point against the opponent but like Morales said, Mayweather only uses the elbow to block the hook from coming up and over because his elbow catchs the arm.
Mayweather has a lovely elbow. It's one of those elbows you can look at and say "Now that is an elbow I would like to have". It functions most effectively and allows him to move his arm in a variety of ways. In fact, Floyd Mayweather has two elbows and I would argue that they are extremely useful on a day to day basis. I hope Mayweather comes back so we can see those elbows one last time. They are a thing of beauty and wonder.
It's the ducking down below the waist that won him the Hatton fight.
Well that added to Cortez's performance and the fact Hatton only seemed to have a plan of how to get inside Mayweather - without having a plan of what to do once he actually got there.
It has already been pointed out already by Danny_G that Floyd was using his elbows excessively against Hatton. I've also observed that he is using his elbows in (some of) his fights. I was assuming that it was part of his shoulder roll technique.![]()
Ikariam
He doesn't use it offensively, and Hatton wasn't hit by it at anytime with a significant amount of force. He sticks it out sideways to block hooks. Like I've said he uses his forearm in the chin to create distance and set himself up for shots which is cheap, but what he does with his elbows is fine.
Floyd used the elbow alot in the Hatton fight because Hatton would rush in, crowd him, and TRY to rough him up.....You have to admit Floyd is a very resourceful and adaptive boxer.....Floyd figured out a way to use Hattons aggressive rough'em up style against him.....
One thing Floyd proved in the Hatton fight was Floyd is a strong SOB....I think Hatton planned to go in,strongarm Floyd and rough him up, like he did to Kostya........didnt quite work out the same.....
Elbow, forearm...but his excellent guard all goes down to his uncanny shoulder roll.
An empty can is always noisy.
