JazMerkin, do you think the fight was officiated correctly? Did Khan deserve his "win" in your honest opinion?![]()

Technically yeah. But it would have been a different story if the headbutt didn't occur. I think most people including me (expecially Barrera fans) were expecting a JMM-JDiaz ending.. where the younger fighter was dominant in early rounds and gets schooled in later round by a great old warrior. The cut difinitely fukked up the fight.
I can see both sides to be honest. I thought that the cut probably did mean it should have been called a NC, but I've seen many fights where similar cuts have carried on. I do think Khan did what he needed to do though. If you look at it from his point of view, he shouldn't have to worry about Barrera, just as Barrera wouldn't if roles were reversed, he just needs to look at his own opinion, and at his age should take the best from it and move on. We can talk about the decision forever (as I'm worrying we might), but the fact is what's done is done. Barrera clearly had a chance to stop the fight, but didn't take it, it seemed clear to me he indicated he wanted to go on, so these things happen.
I don't necessarily agree to the extent of Bilbo's views, but I don't agree with yours either. I also think the British sporting press has been a complete embarassment since with the pointless hype. I think that too many people including those on here, have let their partisanship blind them from the reality. Yes there was some poor officiating, and I think they should have either stopped it before or at least let MAB have another round, but they didn't and that's the way life goes. Dave Parris has a history of 'helping' Warren's fighters, he did the same in the Tszyu fight, letting Ricky basically wrestle him, and I don't remember as many complaints then. The home fighter got the breaks, it happens all the time in boxing, and this in my opinion was the case here, but it was not a robbery. Barrera had his chance to get out, and whilst I admire that he tried to take Khan out, he didn't take it and he knew the consequences. I think people holding it against Khan are being one-eyed, in no other fight do we expect the other fighter to be 'fair' to his opponent, and if the two fighters roles were reversed, no one would be concerned at Khan losing that way.
Hell Jaz I was complaining about the Hatton/Tszyu wrestlemania. I basically called the ref a cheat for allowing that to go on and the same to Hatton for adopting that 'style'.
If Khan lost that way - well first of all I honestly doubt it would have made it to 5 rounds...Warren would have been bouncing up & down screaming for it to waved off long before he gestured to the ref....you certainly would have heard about it post-fight, the commentary team & the papers wouldn't have been kissing Barreras ass which is what happened toward Khan.
As to the earlier question about making a complaint.

Don King protests Khan-Barrera! | Fightnews - Boxing News Updated 24/7
Promoter Don King has filed a protest with the British Boxing Board of Control, World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association on behalf of Marco Antonio Barrera claiming his accidental clash of heads with Amir Khan during the first round of their match should have resulted in the fight being ruled no contest. The five-time world champion Barrera and rising 22-year-old British star Khan had barely begun to fight in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,000 at M.E.N Arena on March 14 in Manchester, England, when the two boxers’ heads inadvertently slammed together while trying to land punches. The accidental meeting of heads occurred during the second minute of the fight, opening a huge gash on the left side of Barrera’s head. The deep scalp cut began to bleed profusely and immediately caused a virtual blood waterfall to spill into Barrera’s left eye.....

Hey Missy remember when Holyfield got robbed by Valuev and we all emailed the WBA bi*chin abou the decision ? I think we should try a similar thing here
Dont think it worked in that instance but lets back up Kings claim . Hopefully someone knows an email addy for the bbbc
I thought that too until i saw what Khan's gameplan was. To outspeed him close then leap away. Diaz pretty much went balls to the wall against Marquez and slugged it out with him. Khan was fighting a much smarter fight so he may have still won the decision. If they rematch Khan will win again with no controversy...until people flood here and say that Barerra was waay past it and should have retired.
if your beef is with the ref's and the doctor only then nothing should stop you from giving Khan credit for his performance regardless.
There's nothing wrong with saying that Khan looked great and that you give him credit for being in there like that with someone like Barerra but you wish the fight would have been stopped earlier. Give credit to the fighter. It's ot as if Khan was supposed to say "Oh I headbutt you? Alright, knock me out"
If you have a problem not with Khan but with the doctors and etc, then why not give Khan any credit for his performance despite the headbutt. It's not like the headbutt forced Khan do well in the fight.
good idea here is the email address i am sure they will pass on the emails if we address them to Robert Smith General Secretary
