Default it's official, DLH is retired

Oscar De La Hoya announces retirement from boxing - ESPN

gonna miss seeing him fight, but understand fully that if he continued it would not be the same DLH that was a great. Good luck to him as a promoter and hope he does keep up the good work, honestly might be one of the few people that gets inducted into the hall of fame for 2 categories

I'm not a fan of his, but there's no denying he created mainstream interest like no other fighter since Tyson, and in a much healthier way.

Watching Pac tee off on without response him was a sad sight and it's unfortunate that was his last moment in the ring.

He did great things for the sport of boxing and deserves to be remembered as a great fighter who always sought to take on the best.

Well, that was a fun ride.Good move on his part.Always nice to see them from round 1 to the hard end.I was not a fan but came to respect his ablities inside and outside of the ring.Has nothing but mega promotional status ahead and please do not turn Ring Magazine into GQ light. He'll always be 'The Colgate Kid' to me

What would have this guy done to Mayweather Jr. if they met when he could still "pull the trigger"? (Freddie Roach)

the same thing everyone else who could pull the trigger . Loose. As far as oscar now that he's retired i hope people will give him credit for what he has done instead of what he didn't do or do the way fans would like. Kick back and spend that money oscar. No use making it till you're too old and punch drunk to enjoy it.

Good, he will be remembered well. Now he can focus on running his business.

Cheers Oscar, it was the right move.

Phuk retirement, I want to see ODLH as a gate keeper.
So, who gets the credit for sending ODLH to the convalescent home?

The Human Buzz! Has retired more fighters than Social Security.
    Hatton is next!

i defended you in the other thread but this is just to show DLH respect he actually deserves, and i wouldn't be laughing too hard seeing how Cotto right now can be facing jail time for his scuffle with his uncle

It's about time, although I'd like to have seen him go toe to toe with Chavez jr. maybe even get a bit bloodied up as a result. It'd be a nice way to reflect on the JCC fight.

I will always remember him in the ring for his wars with Quartey and Vargas. His career up until around 2003 was phenomenal and his legacy shouldnt be diminished because of his last fight in 17 years as a professional. Even though he was "past it" from the Felix Sturm fight to now, he still managed a few good performances and that is an accomplishment in itself. He made records, broke records, fought the best, and at one time was the best. I dont think any other fighter of his time fought as many HOFers or future HOFers. Its been fun watching him through the years. A true legend.
