I'm gonna bump this thread every quarter of the year. Marquez-Diaz so far is getting lots of buzz for 2009 FOTY.

I'd have that one at #2. It was a great fight, but it doesn't compare to Marquez - Diaz in terms of action and excitement, the quality of fighters, importance, and scope.
Yeah hard to disagree with that I just enjoyed the Bunne Cordoba fight more.

It helps maybe that he's almost British and that his fights draw arguably the best crowds in all of boxing. The atmosphere in Dublin is incredible especially when you compare it the rather soulless casino's in America.

I just love the epic Gladiator style music and how it then morphs into the old Irish folk stuff, his entrances are great and a Dunne vs Molitor fight in Dublin would probably be in my top 3 potential fights for 2009, would love to see that, I'd even consider going to Dublin for it.

I'd love to see that fight, though who knows what the shit-kicking Caballero gave him took out of Molitor.

I still have Marquez-Diaz as 2009 Fight of The Year. Berto-Collazo, and Mosley-Margarito are the next two IMO.

How could Mosley - Margarito be fight of the year? It was perhaps the one-siding ass kicking of the year, but in my mind FOTY's should be very closely contested, back and forth fights.

I agree but maybe he meant the fight that he enjoyed the most.

The Calzaghe Lacy fight was possibly the most one sided unification fight ever but it was far and away my fight of 2006

It really depends also if you like the fighters involved. I mean the fight I watched the most last year (three times) was bizarrely Roy Jones against Anthony Hanshaw, I just really enjoyed that fight, close, keenly fought and flashes of Jones Jr brilliance.

Fair enough, but as I understand it Fight of the Year is supposed to be an unbiased appraisal of the most exciting fight of the year. I'm not going to argue with someone about which fight they personally liked the best, but the FOTY, in my opinion, should be one in which there was great action from both fighters - thus ruling out Mosley-Margarito in my eyes.

I know where he is coming from saying Mosley-Marg was FOTY. I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn't believe what was happening. Mosley's display of skill was spellbinding. But, unfortunately this doesn't make for a FOTY. Someone who knows nothing about either of these fighters would view this as a mismatch if they didn't know the odds.

    So Mosley gets
    POTY (Performance of the year)

I can't believe this is up in the air! Marquez vs Diaz is HANDS DOWN fight of the year. The importance, significance, the match-up, the titles, and the fight was ALL ACTION!

Berto vs Collazo was a good one too!

Solis-Viloria was pretty decent imo. It should one of the top 10 right at the moment.

At the moment it's Diaz vs Marquez.

But I expect Pacquiao vs Hatton to overtake that especially if it goes the distance. I expect nothing but fireworks in that one

'You think so? Do you think Hatton will fight like a man and not hold every 10 seconds?
