I really don't get why people think Peter Manfredo's much better at the lower weight classes, he was beaten by Alfonso Gomez comfortably in there 1st meeting, and i think he was lucky to get the decision in there 2nd fight. A gift against Joey Gilbert on a cut caused by a headbutt wasn't it ?

And that fight was even going into the last round IMO. Honestly i think Peter Manfredo has mentality problems, twice against Bika, Calzaghe, he froze against the ropes. He seems to lack self belief, he isn't a bad fighert but he ain't got what it takes against the top boys skills wise or mentality wise. Although i admire he isn't giving up hope.

The thing with the contender fights is that it's kinda like the amateurs. You need to walk around pretty close to your fighting weight. Mandredo was already a 12 round fighter used to making his weight in the normal pro way an walking in on fight night 10 lbs over the limit. For Gomez and Mora, it wasn't as big a deal to do this, more Manfredo it was. He's a guy who started his career at 160, moved down to 154 because he could make the weight by dehydrating, then got into the contender at 154 where he got taken out of his normal training routine. It was actually an advantage for Gomez because he didn't have weight issues. Think about it, before he even was on that show, he had wins decent wins and a couple of minor straps.

I'll agree that Manfredo has problems with his mentality. Mentality is why he moved up to 168 rather than 160. He also wanted a showdown with Spina. He liked the weight and stayed. He could make it and still eat. He freezes like a dear in the headlights when he realizes he being outclassed. I guess he's probably a bit of a front runner. Not a an admirable quality in my book.

Still, when you look at 160, what do you see? A division where Pavlik had to give Sergio Mora a shot because there are so few good fights out there for him. Mora is a former strap-holder, and it's a legit defense - I'm not slagging Mora here! But it is what it is. Manfredo and Mora fought 15 rounds and Mora won 8 or 9 out of the 15. That means there's not a real big separation there.

were these fights from the contender's first season ever shown in their entirety? I mean, there is NO WAY you can judge a fight from those clips..
