Why do so many boxing fans put so much emphasis on undefeated records? An defeated record against a bunch of club fighters means nothing. This loss doesn't hurt Angulo at all. He lost to world class former belt holder who has only lost (or stolen a draw) to world class fighters. Angulo took on Cintron in his 16th professional fights. After 15 fights, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe were still fighting club fighters at that point.
Angulo showed a lot of heart and chin on Saturday. He didn't quit and made a good fight. He won some rounds late and came away lossing only 116-112. A clear loss, but not a total rout. He pushed Cintron pretty hard in the second half of the fight.
Boxing would be better off if more fighters did what Angulo did and took a risk. I'm sure he'll go back too the drawing board and come back stronger. Guys who fight with his style and heart can always get fights after competitive losses. Look at Andrade. Was his career hurt by losses to Kessler and Bute?

I think so. I really didn't see anything great about Angulo, except that he can take a helluva shot. I always felt someone who could box decently would do fairly well with him and that was just the case on Saturday.
No, it's not exclusive to Brits at all. Mayweather did win his first championship with 17 pro fights, but all the other names you mentioned were brought along slowly as well. I give Haye a lot of credit for his willingness to take tough fights. A few of his countrymen could learn a lesson or two from him when it comes to williness to make meaningful fights while they are still young.
We right people off too soon but its clear as day he's got some issues that will be exploited by elite or goodish fighters, he's got major hand and foot speed issues, combined with needing to be set to punch means he's always gonna have issues with movement. Also he's a heavy puncher but doesn't look like a one punch guy so he's gonna have to land fairly consistently over the course of a fight which will be difficult against top guys.
Basically I don't think he'll be elite by any means but I felt the same way last Friday, the Cintron fight didn't change that.
It's not it for Angulo but from what i have seen he will never be any good.
I would call it a day if i got decisively beat by Kermit Cintron
Just kidding, Cintron is actually a decent fighter.
Haye getting exposed early in his career was actually the best thing to happen to him. Its better when someone gets beat after 10 fights, it gives them time to improve. Its better then being 48 and 0 before losing because at that point you don't know any other way to win.
The Cintron fight was entirely winnable for a guy like Angulo. With Cintron backpeddling all night and pumping the jab and throwing occasional combos, there was ample opportunity for Angulo to force the fight wear down Cintron. I applaud Cintron on still having one punch power and stepping up his work on mobility under Shields and he did the smart thing by turning on Angulo. But in Angulo stepped up the pace and the pressure and threw in a little head movement for Cintrons jab, its a different fight and I think Angulo could have worn him down. Keeping Cintron moving would be key to not letting him set his feet for big shots or combos... plus I still thing Cintron is a little punchy. It was winnable fight, I just think Angulo is the kind of guy that goes on heart and wears downs fighters with pressure and he needed to taylor that style to a guy that was going to try to box him. Angulo has better potential to be a pressure fighter than Cintron does to be a slick boxer.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

The first and second round was hard to score. But I thought Cintron won 'em by a tiny margin. Angulo's tactic was to steal round in last remaining seconds, which didn't really impress a lot of people. Good win for the cry baby Cintron.
As for Angulo. I don't know man. It's difinitely a good lecture for him. But I don't think I like his sore loser attitude. I'm talking about when he bailed out right away after they announced the winner.
I think we just saw that even instinctive boxers can be beaten by guys who are TAUGHT boxing. Ronnie Shields is a very underrated trainer, he's worked with some very good fighters and when fighters listen to good trainers you get good results.
Angulo may want to be like Julio Cesar Chavez but he's going to have to be able to outwork guys like Cintron and use defense to set up counter shots (which were there BTW) and stop FOLLOWING Cintron and cut the ring off.....that was ridiculous.
Angulo-Margarito sounds like a good match eventhough I think Toni is 100% done because of #1 Plaster-gate and #2 Shane Mosley cracked his jaw
