Forrest doesn't have a belt and is in the twilight of his career. By sheer volume punching, Paul would beat Forrest. It wouldn't be a good fight for Forrest to take. He would look worse than Winky did against Paul.

Paul is not going to land a big welterweight fight. Floyd will never fight him. Pacquiao shouldn't fight him. Mosley has said he won't fight him. He already beat Margarito. That leaves the winner of the Cotto/Clottey fight who (if Cotto) will probably fight Pacquiao.

Sturm and Abraham will never fight Paul Williams. Each is content to fight in Germany against no-name opponents. Either way, Sturm's mandatory is against Mundine. Abraham and Pavlik deserve a fight, which is tentatively scheduled to occur in January 2010.

Paul should stick to the junior middleweights. Dzinzurik is the only fighter to actually ask Paul for a fight. Go to Germany and fight him. Otherwise there is Santos and Martinez.

Shane never said flat out he would not fight Paul. He just said he was looking for something bigger. However, Shane really doesn't have a big fight looming. Arum is angling to put Cotto in with Pacquiao is Cotto beats Clottey. Floyd has ducked Shane for years. I could see Shane going for a fight with Paul once it becomes clear those bigger fights are not going to be options for him anytime soon. He has never ducked anyone.

If Paul can't get Shane, then I'd like to see him fight Martinez next. Pavlik is apparently going to reschedule with Mora and then fight Abraham, so that fight isn't going to happen soon. Obviously, I'd like to see him eventually fight to Pavlik/Abraham winner.

I would like Paul to come back to Welter and take on the big boys.

Shane pretty much said it, this is from the boxingtalk website:

GL: Does a fight with Paul Williams interest you?

SSM: "I told Paul Williams he's not the man for me right now.I'd fight him once I'm recognized as pound for pound."

GL: If you're unable to get a fight you're looking at...

SSM: (cutting in) "Then I'm just going to sit and wait. I'm not fighting anybody other Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto. I'm not jumping in the ring to fight anybody. I'm not going to stay busy with anybody else."

GL: You've made it clear who you want to fight, but with all due respect, won't Paul Williams be saying the same things about you that you're saying about the guys you want to fight who you feel are avoiding you?

SSM: "I'm not fighting him, so he can say all that. I already been there and done that, I'm only fighting the very best. I like Paul Williams and I think he's top 10 pound for pound. He's a great fighter, he's all that and I like them and he's not the kind of fighter that can make me the pound for pound best in the sport, Mayweather and Pacquiao are."

Moreover, at this stage, Shane would have a lot of problems with Pwill. Remember the Forrest fights. If Cotto beats Clottey and Cotto v. Pacquiao is made, Mayweather is left out in the cold and he either retires again or will fight Shane. If Cotto loses, either Pacquiao fights Mayweather and Shane fights Cotto or Pacquiao fights Shane. I don't see him fighting Pwill.

Paul should fight Dzinzurik in Germany. Martinez v. Paul would be a good fight too. Throwing it out there: how about Paul v. Spinks in St. Louis?

I would say Pacquiao, Mayweather & Marquez are too small to fight Williams, and both Cotto & Mosley will duck him as they are (if Floyd & Manny are ducking them, then they're duckin Williams). Only possibility at 147 would be Clottey should he beat Cotto, but maybe Arum would keep him away. Forrest won't fight him, Kirkland is in jail, leaves Martinez & Dzindziruk who aren't money fights. The best bet I think is Pavlik at 160 if he can get him.

Sounds like the kind of thing if Mayweather said he'd be ridiculed to hell. But Shane remains safe

At this point,I think Williams would do bad things to Forrest, two vastly different energy levels and I think they are going in two different directions.I would forget all about going back to Welterweight....he has made the jump, looked very impressive doing so and though the name value at 147 is tempting...Mosley,Cotto,Mayweather (or is he lightweight these days ??) Middle weight always beckons but....Williams has made the physical adjustments,I think he might just rule 154,with Martinez giving him a serious go style wise....I think he walks through Spinks.

Mosley just said in an article on RingTV with Doug Fischer that he'll fight whoever the fans want to see him fight that includes Williams, but he want Mayweather or Pacquiao 1st

“I fight for the love of the sport and I fight for the fans.”

Mosley said he wanted to fight Margarito because the Mexican mauler was recognized as the best 147-pound fighter in the sport. Now he wants to fight Pacquiao and Mayweather, to prove that he’s the best fighter, pound for pound, in the game.

“If I get a fight against either or both, I’ll prove that I really am the best, and I won’t walk away from the sport like Floyd did. I’ll defend my title.”

    Against whom?

“I’ll fight anyone the fans want me to fight,” Mosley said. “I mean that. I really do fight for the fans. If I’m recognized as the pound-for-pound best I’ll let the fans vote on who I should fight next. I don’t care who it is. If they want me to fight Cotto again, I’ll do it. If they want me to fight Andre Berto or Paul Williams, I’ll do it.

Mosley, not Mayweather, is worthy of fan appreciation

Shane has earned the right to wait for these money fights. Though a fight with Paul would be great, I believe him when he says that he will give him the shot once he gets these big names.

But it still leaves Paul in a tough spot when he can't fight these big names.

Shane took on Marg when he was given no chance, Shane career is more impressive that Mayweather and he can wait for the big 3.
