I'd difintely encourage and support him. But I would let him decide it is or not for him without me interfering.

If I had a son and he was just a tiny kid, I'd just treat it like a game and let him have fun with it and not force anything onto him. I'd put up my hands and have him hit me on my palms, show him how to stand, brush aside his swings and encourage him to hit straight. When he does it right he can get a few punches in on me.However I wouldn't just put gloves on a couple of little kids and tell them to box. That's just irresponsible to just put them in for everyone else's amusement. Even if the kids are into it, it won't teach them right.
If my boy was older and got interested in boxing, I'd help him in any way that I could, talk boxing with him, watch fights with him, and send him to a good trainer that could set him on the right track if his heart is in it.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
I'd love it if the little bastard started to box. I'd be happy with him getting in the ring once and getting his arse kicked or even a bloody nose. Kids have this unbelievable sense of self entitlement, they think they should just get everything they want without having to work for it. I'd kick him up the arse myself if I thought I could get away with it but he'd probably file charges or his mum and dad would anyway.
I'm a long way from having kids (or so I hope, that last chick I beat is starting to get a bit big) but I would treat it as a kind of playful little thing whilst they're a child, never push it, and once they were a teenager, I would let them do it. Then after they'd been at it for a decent while (like a year proper I'd say), I'd go see em fight/spar a couple of times & make an assessment of how far they could go. Unless I realized they were gonna be somethin really special, I would do my best to make sure they kept it as an amateur hobby
