Federer is not the player he once was lets not forget this, the draw opened up amazingly for him and he was left to play a player whose best result coming into this event was a semi final appearance at some shit warm up event for the Aus Open in Jan, add to the that Federer beat him 9 times on the bounce over the years.

This was Federers worst return in trerms of sets dropped in any of his grand slam wins, im happy for him, but a 100% Nadal wipes the floor with Federer on clay and especailly at the French.

Federer has to be favourite for Wimby now especially that Nadal is looking injured but i think its very open alot of players who could go well, Djoko, Murray, Del Potro etc etc.

I think Federer has one or two more slams left in him, i do think he is the best player ever if you look at them years between 2004 and 2007 no other player in history has beaton so many records such as titles in a season time at number one, them 3/4 years he was fucking amazing.
I agree mate. Definitely the best player I have ever seen. He's the only player I can remeber that has no weakness whatsoever!

I think Nadal (injuries permitting) will go on to be even better. He may not win as many slams, but I think he can be an even better player than Federer has been.

P.S Andy Murray is a choker and much as would like to see it, I don't think he will ever win slam

Yeah I think that's the only RG Fed wins as well. I would like to see him and Nadal play in a RG final again though to see if Fed can at least play him tough like he did in 2006/07; 08 was a travesty. But Nadal is the best clay courter I've ever seen; and he seriously got into Fed's psyche. Maybe Master is right with this RG title getting the monkey off his back and Fed won't lose it mentally playing Nadal anymore; as he has his trophy and won't be forced to beat Nadal to get it.

But given everything I think fed is the best player I ever watched play; when he's 100% mentally and physically he is superb. Nadal can do great things but his style of play is hard on his body and he won't have near the longevity Federer has; which is a true testament to Fed's greatness, as how many times have yu seen all the other players take off for injury? Fed is always healthy and othr than the mono I think he's only had a slight back issue. To be at the top this long and remain healthy really is a credit to his game and greatness. He can play several more years; and as long as he can hold it together mentally he'll be at or near the top. Can't wait to see Wimby and USO.

Federer is defintly a one off, Nadal is the best clay court player that ever lived imagine he wasnt around Federer would of probably had 3/4 french opens in the bag, when Nadal was number two before he became number one for all them years the amount of points he had for a number 2 would of been enough to be number 1 at any other time in the ranking history, that just shows how good Federer is.

He has made 20 grand slam semi finals or better in the last 20 grand slams now that is just amazing on its own thats 5 years on the bounce, like i say them years between 2004/2007 he was unbeatable and the best player that ever lived, and its a credit to himself coming to 28 which lets be honest in tennis terms is coming to the end of your career, most guys peak between 19/20 - 26. He is still number two and winning slams.

People say Sampras was the best no way imo, Sampras was an amazing player but he didnt dominate like Federer when Sampras was at his peak he was beatable at most slams and general events throughout the year, apart from Wimbledon, Federer was so dominant in his peak at even now when he is not at his best he is still winning slams the guy is just class.

The fact that he also addressed the crowd in French amazes me to this day. How many languages does he know? 5? 6?

Wimbledon will be interesting. If Nadal is out, it may be another Federer slam, but if he's in, how good could be possibly be harboring a knee injury? I don't see Federer losing the US Open either. Has there ever been a person to win all four majors in the same year?

I was rooting for Fed to not pull off the career grand slam but after seeing him in all the post-match interviews, it's hard to root against the guy, he's so likable. At least my Agassi is still the only person with the career golden grand slam! PLEASE DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY FED!!!

Uh, Agassi doesn't have a golden slam, to do that you have to win all 4 slams and the olympics in the same calendar year. His wife Steffi Graf is the ONLY player to have done it in the same year!! And she won all 4 slams at least 4 times each They should have some tennis playing puppies pop out of her And Rod Laver is the only male in he Open Era who on all 4 in the sameyear. He won it in 62' and then again in 69'. He is usually considered one f if not the greatest players ever. Ck. out his Wiki page. Guy came back after an 11 year layoff and won more slams lol.

I thought the Career Golden Grand Slam meant that you won all four major plus an olympic singles gold medal. I didn't know it has to be in the same year.

I believe it's just called a Career Slam to have won all 4; as far as I know Steffi is the only person to have ever won the Golden Slam, all 4 + the Olympic, all in the same year.

Good performance from Federer. Soderling was never really in it.

Hopefully he can take wimbledon again.

Sorry! What I was talking about with winning all the majors plus a singles gold medal is called a "Career Golden Slam." According to Wiki, only Graf and her husband Agassi have done it. Graf was the only one to do it all in the same year (SICK!)

Fed's no.1 all time now I agree. Clay is his weakest surface, but he is still only 2nd on this surface to the guy widely considered the no.1 all time on it (though it is hard to compare considering the dramatic change in racket technology from the Borg/Mac days.)

Would like to see Fed get a win in a slam final against Nadal to cement his legacy.

I am very happy for Roger, I think he's a very good figure to represent tennis and plainly deserves plainly this missing victory. FOr the moment, he deserves plainly the title of best players of all time but the king will have to work hard to stay atop of the throne as other great and young wolves like Nadal are in a very good position to eventually climb atop.
